Mechanical Engineering Expert — AI Training Specialist About The Role We're looking for experienced mechanical engineers to help train and evaluate cutting-edge AI models. Your deep technical knowledge will directly shape how AI reasons through complex engineering problems — from fluid dynamics and thermodynamics to structural mechanics and beyond. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of engineering and artificial intelligence, contributing to AI systems used by leading research labs worldwide. Organization: Alignerr Type: Hourly Contract Location: Remote Commitment: 10–40 hours/week What You'll Do Design Complex Engineering Problems — Craft advanced, domain-specific problems across FEA, heat transfer, kinematics, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and material science to rigorously stress-test AI performance Author Ground-Truth Solutions — Develop detailed, step-by-step technical solutions and benchmark responses that AI models use as the gold standard for learning Audit AI Reasoning — Evaluate AI-generated outputs — including CAD logic, thermodynamic proofs, and material specifications — for technical accuracy, safety, and compliance with engineering standards such as ASME and ISO Refine Model Thinking — Identify and document logical errors in AI reasoning (e.g., incorrect force distributions, energy conservation violations) and provide structured, actionable feedback to improve model quality Who You Are Pursuing or holding a Master's or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field Strong foundational expertise in one or more core areas: solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, CAD/CAM, or manufacturing processes Able to communicate highly technical concepts clearly and precisely in written form Meticulous attention to detail — especially when checking mathematical derivations, unit conversions, and physical constraints No prior AI experience required — we'll onboard you Nice to Have Experience with data annotation, data quality assessment, or evaluation systems Proficiency with engineering software such as SolidWorks, MATLAB, or ANSYS Background in reviewing or producing technical documentation to industry standards Why Join Us Work on some of the most technically demanding AI projects in the world Fully remote and flexible — work on your own schedule, from anywhere Freelance autonomy with meaningful, intellectually stimulating work Direct impact: your expertise shapes how AI understands and applies engineering knowledge Potential for ongoing work and contract extension
