ABOUT THE ROLE The Civil/Pave Estimator within the Vancouver Island Civil, Pave and Concrete Construction divisions has direct accountability for preparing, submitting, and tracking estimates for the commercial, industrial, municipal, and federal segments. The Civil/Pave Estimator plays a key role in securing work and projects for the Civil, Pave and Concrete Construction divisions across Vancouver Island. Directly contributes to a “Build your Ambition” vision by incorporating and utilizing all of Amrize’s construction materials and logistics into bids. This role requires strong collaboration with the estimating team, project coordinators, superintendents, engineers, operations staff, and clients. You will be responsible for reviewing bid documents, performing quantity take-offs, developing first-principle estimates, procuring and comparing vendor and subcontractor quotes, and submitting proposals. Professionalism and clear communication with all stakeholders are essential. Once projects are awarded, you will be responsible for ensuring a smooth handoff to Operations, while still working closely and regularly communicating with Superintendents and Project Coordinators during the project lifecycle to align costing with field operations, while pricing and tracking project change orders. The Civil/Pave Estimator is an experienced estimating professional with large project experience and a client focus. Driven by commitment to the organization, this person will be a team-builder with broad-spectrum talent that allows for the management of key relationships from client to the project team and external stakeholders. The Civil/Pave Estimator contributes to organizational excellence by continually promoting a culture of agility, collaboration, and empowerment, enabling continuous improvement. WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH Estimating & Costing: Prepare accurate cost estimates using efficient construction practices and reliable subcontractors/suppliers. Technical Estimating: Conduct quantity take-offs, manage vendors, track indirect costs, and oversee material distribution. Bid Preparation & Submission: Ensure timely bid submissions with appropriate mark-ups based on market conditions and company policies. Project Setup & Documentation: Manage credit approvals, schedules, subcontract agreements, purchase orders, and accounting setup. Contract Administration: Verify documents, oversee tendering, manage change orders, and ensure accurate invoicing. Project Oversight: Manage bids within ICI, heavy civil, subdivisions, and other general contracting while monitoring costs and financial reports. Site Assessments: Attend pre-tender site visits to evaluate potential cost and production impacts. Market & Bid Analysis: Track submitted bids, analyze market trends, and refine bidding strategies. Interdepartmental Collaboration: Work closely with other estimators, project managers, superintendents, and project coordinators during bidding and construction. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors. WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma. Additional Education Preferred: PMP, CEC, or Gold Seal Certification is an asset. Field of Study Preferred: Business or Engineering. Required Work Experience: Minimum of 2-5 years estimating experience. Must have understanding of pre-construction phasing, survey, grades, string line, equipment capabilities and machine control. Required Technical Skills: Understanding and use of estimating software, specifically Bid2Win, HeavyBid and Blue beam.Travel Requirements: 10% Additional Requirements: Excellent problem solving and analytical skills. Strong communication, negotiation and change management skills. Good knowledge of Concrete, Asphalt Paving, Grading, Road and Infrastructure Construction. Ability to foster and grow a strong safety culture. Independent thinker. Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
