Appropriate Housing Matters Inc.

We are a non profit social enterprise committed to retaining and growing affordable, socially responsible and appropriate homes in our region. Founded in 1972 as a by-product of Co-op Atlantic’s social initiatives, our organization has been recognized under the names of our various brands - Appropriate Housing Matters Inc., APHL, APHL services, People’s Park Tower, etc. Since 2016, we have moved from various housing industry pieces into the region's most comprehensive and complete non-profit service provider for organizations that deliver housing “at cost.” We took orphaned housing organizations and created Appropriate Housing Matters Inc. to be the overarching company that provides provisional governance for all the various housing organizations, and re-positioned and refinanced properties to create sustainable and valuable positions in the market. We then transitioned provisional governance to community volunteers who have become instrumental in creating and directing the vision and mission Appropriate Housing Matters Inc. Now, after 50 years of parallel existence, the various housing organizations have combined to form Appropriate Housing Matters Inc. Appropriate Housing Matters Inc. raises the standard of what is defined as “affordable” and delivers, with pride, a variety of housing options that are maintained, well run, safe, and most importantly, appropriate for the residents that call them home.
