Job summary
Job Title: Senior Java Backend Developer (Java + Security + Kafka) Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid – 3/4 Days Onsite) Duration: Long-Term Contract Job Summary We are looking for an experienced Java Backend Developer with strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, and Application Security. The ideal candidate will design, develop, and maintain scalable, high-performance backend services while implementing secure coding practices and event-driven architectures. Banking or financial services experience is highly preferred. Required Skills 8+ years of experience in Java backend development. Strong hands-on experience with Java 17+, Spring Boot, and Microservices. Extensive experience with Apache Kafka, including producers, consumers, topics, partitions, Kafka Streams, and event-driven architecture. Strong knowledge of application security concepts, including: OAuth 2.0 OpenID Connect (OIDC) JWT Authentication Spring Security API Security Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) Secure coding practices Experience developing and consuming RESTful APIs. Strong SQL skills with Oracle, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server. Experience with Docker and Kubernetes. Hands-on experience with Git, Jenkins, Maven/Gradle, and CI/CD pipelines. Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP. Strong debugging, performance tuning, and troubleshooting skills. Responsibilities Design and develop secure, scalable backend applications using Java and Spring Boot. Build and maintain Kafka-based event-driven solutions. Implement authentication and authorization using OAuth 2.0, JWT, and Spring Security. Develop RESTful APIs and integrate with internal and external systems. Ensure applications follow secure coding standards and industry best practices. Optimize application performance and scalability. Participate in code reviews, unit testing, and integration testing. Collaborate with architects, DevOps engineers, QA teams, and business stakeholders. Support production deployments and resolve critical production issues. Contribute to CI/CD pipeline improvements and automation.
