Job Title: AS/400 Consultant Location: Remote(Canada) Years of Experience: 8+ years Contract Job Description: 1. Proficiency in RPG400, RPGLE, and CL400 Programming Ability to develop, debug, and maintain RPG-based applications on IBM i (AS400). Experience in writing CL programs for job control, file handling, and system utilities. 2. Requirement Gathering & Business Analysis Work closely with stakeholders to understand business needs. Collaborate with offshore and on-site teams for development and implementation. 3. AS400 Application Support Analyst Monitor and resolve application errors. Assist users with system-related issues. Perform routine health checks and troubleshooting. 4. Experience with DB2/400 Database Management Strong understanding of SQL queries, stored procedures, and database optimization. Ability to design and maintain physical and logical files efficiently. 5. AS400 System Administration & Operations Familiarity with system monitoring, job scheduling, and troubleshooting AS400 environments. Knowledge of security, user profile management, and object authority controls. 6. Expertise in AS400 Batch & Interactive Processing Ability to develop and optimize batch processes for high-performance job execution. Experience in handling interactive screens using DDS (Data Description Specifications). 7. Integration & API Development for AS400 Experience in integrating AS400 systems with external applications using web services, APIs, or FTP. Knowledge of data interchange formats like JSON, XML, and EDI. 8. Performance Tuning & Optimization Expertise in debugging performance issues and optimizing RPG programs for efficiency. Ability to analyze job logs and system performance using WRKACTJOB and WRKSYSSTS. 9. Knowledge of Modernization & Migration Strategies Familiarity with AS400 application modernization techniques like refactoring RPG to free-format RPGLE. Experience in migrating legacy AS400 applications to cloud-based or newer IBM i environments. 10. Hands-on Experience with Query/400 & SQL/400 Ability to create custom queries using Query/400 for reporting and analysis. Strong skills in SQL for data retrieval and manipulation within DB2/400. 11. Problem Solving & Debugging in AS400 Ability to troubleshoot runtime errors, job failures, and unexpected application behavior. Expertise in using debugging tools like STRDBG and DSPJOBLOG for identifying issues. 12. Strong Communication & Documentation Skills Ability to interact effectively with business users and technical teams to gather requirements. Experience in maintaining documentation for AS400 programs, processes, and system configurations.
