Job Description Overview Come join us in reshaping the future with AtkinsRéalis. AtkinsRéalis is dedicated in engineering a better future for our planet and its people. Your role Provide technical leadership throughout the development of design packages from conceptual design through 60%, 90%, IFC, and construction support, leading electrical engineering and design for 115/230/500 kV and above transmission substations, including AIS and GIS installations. Develop and review core electrical engineering deliverables, including Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), electrical schematics, protection and control interfaces, and overall substation electrical arrangements. Develop and review EHV substation layouts and equipment arrangements, including general arrangements, sections, elevations, bus configurations, electrical clearances, and interfaces for circuit breakers, disconnect switches, CTs, VTs, surge arresters, power transformers, shunt reactors, and other EHV equipment, including GIS layouts and building interfaces. Develop and review electrical infrastructure and auxiliary systems, including underground cable routing, conduits, cable trays, duct banks, switchgear, control/relay and telecommunications room layouts, AC auxiliary systems, load calculations, station service transformers, and associated electrical interfaces. Prepare and review technical documentation and systems, including equipment specifications, data sheets, technical requirements, Bills of Material (BOMs), grounding and lightning protection systems, ensuring compliance with applicable standards and project requirements. Provide technical review, direction, and multidisciplinary coordination, reviewing engineering deliverables prepared by engineers and designers and working closely with Protection & Control, Civil, Structural, Telecommunications, Mechanical, and other disciplines to resolve interfaces, design conflicts, and technical issues. Engage with clients, utilities, manufacturers, and project stakeholders on technical matters, providing support through procurement, vendor drawing reviews, factory testing, construction, and commissioning, while identifying technical risks, design constraints, and opportunities for value engineering, design optimization, and improved constructability. About you Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university, with 15–20+ years of progressive experience in the engineering and design of high-voltage and extra-high-voltage transmission substations. Professional Qualification: Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Canada is required, with demonstrated technical ownership of electrical engineering activities. EHV Technical Expertise: Demonstrated experience with 500 kV and above transmission substation projects, with strong practical expertise in the design of both AIS and GIS substations. Standards & Utility Knowledge: Strong knowledge of applicable IEEE, ANSI, CSA, IEC, and NERC requirements, with familiarity with Canadian utility standards and specifications, including Hydro One and other major North American utilities, considered an asset. Leadership & Communication: Strong technical writing, communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated ability to lead technical design activities and collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
