The Opportunity Atmail delivers email platforms and services to customers around the world. We're looking for an experienced, hands-on engineer to join our Product & Technology team, ensuring our cloud platforms remain reliable, secure and highly available. You'll be responsible for platform operations during North American business hours, working within a globally distributed engineering team. With limited overlap with colleagues in other time zones, you'll need the confidence and technical expertise to troubleshoot issues, make sound decisions and manage priorities independently. This role will suit someone who enjoys solving complex problems, improving systems and taking genuine ownership of their work. What You'll Be Doing Operate, monitor and maintain production cloud infrastructure, ensuring reliability, security and performance. Independently investigate and resolve complex infrastructure and application-related incidents. Provision and manage AWS infrastructure using Terraform, CloudFormation and other Infrastructure as Code technologies. Develop automation using Python and Bash to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention. Administer and troubleshoot Linux systems, cloud services and databases. Support application deployments, CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure changes. Improve monitoring, alerting, logging and incident response processes. Identify opportunities to enhance platform stability, security and performance. Collaborate with engineering teams, maintaining clear documentation and communication across time zones. Participate in on-call arrangements and scheduled production changes as required. What We're Looking For You'll be an experienced Cloud Infrastructure, DevOps, Site Reliability or Platform Operations Engineer with strong technical capabilities and proven experience supporting production environments. Essential skills and experience: Minimum 3-5 years' hands-on experience in cloud infrastructure, DevOps, SRE or platform operations. Strong AWS experience, including provisioning, managing and troubleshooting production infrastructure. Advanced Linux administration and troubleshooting skills. Strong Python and Bash scripting and automation capabilities. Hands-on experience with Terraform and/or AWS CloudFormation. Experience with production incident management, root cause analysis and remediation. Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, logging and infrastructure deployments. Working knowledge of MySQL, networking and cloud security principles. Proven ability to work autonomously, prioritise effectively and make sound technical decisions. Excellent communication skills and experience collaborating with distributed teams. Highly regarded: Experience with email platforms or large-scale SaaS environments. Exposure to Google Cloud Platform. Experience with Docker, Kubernetes or Ansible. Knowledge of ITIL practices and ISO 27001/27002 security standards. Relevant AWS, Terraform or Linux certifications. About You You're a proactive, resourceful engineer who takes ownership and thrives when working independently. You have the technical confidence to investigate problems, assess risks and implement solutions without needing constant direction. Importantly, you're also an excellent communicator who knows when to seek input, escalate issues and keep stakeholders informed. You enjoy improving systems, finding smarter ways of working and contributing to a collaborative international team. Working Arrangements This is a remote, 12-month contract position supporting North American operations, with potential for extension subject to business requirements. During the initial 2–3 month onboarding period, flexibility to work later hours will be required to allow sufficient overlap with the Australian engineering team. Working hours will then transition to the established North American coverage schedule, including scheduled deployment and change windows. Why Join Atmail? Atmail offers the opportunity to work with an experienced international engineering team in a flexible, remote-first environment. You'll have genuine ownership of critical cloud infrastructure, the opportunity to influence improvements and the freedom to apply your technical expertise.
