We have an excellent opportunity in our Finance, Tax department and are looking for our next Tax manager. A successful candidate who specializes in direct corporate taxes and is responsible for the preparation and/or review of corporate (T2), partnership (T5013), foreign transaction (T106/T1134), withholding tax (NR4) and foreign tax returns for the Aviva Canada group of insurance and non-insurance companies, and defense of any government or external audit arising from tax compliance matters. In addition, the role requires the determination of tax provisions, monitoring of income tax continuities, ensuring accurate tax installment computations and remittances, and preparing corresponding entries into the accounting and banking systems. This role may also involve ad-hoc projects, maintaining internal controls, and assisting with capital reporting. The incumbent must be able to coordinate the preparation and maintenance of all documentation and working papers that support the tax compliance and financial reporting of the members of the Aviva Canada Group. Come join our team! What you’ll do Subject matter authority in the analysis, research, determination, computation, and communication of direct current and deferred taxes for the Aviva Canadian Group. Must have senior-level accounting experience to accurately extract relevant financial data from accounting records, understanding financial reporting and other company records to analyze and support all tax determinations and computations. Managing the Aviva Group's income tax balance sheet accounts by computing and completing tax installments, remittances, reassessments, and tax continuity schedules. Processing entries into accounting and financial systems and reconciling accounting system entries with actual payments, assessments, and reassessments. Managing withholding tax payments and returns to ensure proper compliance with non-resident tax rules. Running internal controls related to the income tax function through proper documentation, maintenance and testing of controls. Handling documentation of transfer pricing information and responding to internal and external parties as needed. Participation in other ad-hoc projects as they are available. prepare monthly and quarterly income tax provisions and income tax continuities using IFRS guidelines and produce worksheets for capital reporting purposes. Dealing directly with government tax authorities regularly and assisting in managing the direction of action that the organization should take in tax compliance and reporting matters. Risk management considerations arise given the level of exposure to government tax auditors, so the incumbent has a vital role in maintaining the company's reputation as an excellent corporate citizen concerning its financial disclosure and its payment of business taxes. What you'll bring University degree or College Diploma in business, economics, finance, or related field. Completion or enrolment in Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation. Completion or enrolment in CICA In-Depth Corporate Tax Course or Master of Taxation program. 3+ years of accounting and/or corporate tax experience. Previous employment in a corporate tax department and/or public accounting firm. Experience taking care of government and external financial auditors. Strong analytical and financial accounting skills. Experience with IFRS and financial institutions is helpful. A high degree of proficiency in Excel and tax preparation software.
