Lab Research Assistant The DH Lab Research Assistant is responsible for delivering the short-term and long-term goals of a high-throughput Double Haploid production laboratory through the use of cutting-edge research equipment, methodology and materials to support the decision-making process of the Canola Breeding pipeline, while ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. This is a permanent position based out of Winnipeg, Manitoba. What you will do: Execute laboratory operations to meet quality and timeline targets Assist in all aspects of the production of canola doubled haploids using good laboratory practices and sterile technique This includes but is not limited to collection and sizing of buds, microspore isolation, embryo culture, maintenance of embryos, making media (includes working with toxic chemicals), transferring embryos onto solid media, tissue sampling, analyzing plant material, and transplanting Maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment Actively participate in process improvement initiatives Follow all Quality Management System (QMS) and Health Safety and Environment (HSE) procedures and promote implementation within the DH laboratory operations Maintain tidiness & orderliness within the workplace Participate in task-related document creation and process review for job-related activities Assist in other projects & performs other duties as required Supervise and train temporary employees as required Foster an inclusive environment of professionalism and safe working practices ensuring Safety and Compliance requirements are met or exceeded Who you are: Degree or diploma in agricultural/biological science or related field Strong computer software literacy, with experience using Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint and central databases Theoretical and practical knowledge of double haploid production Highly skilled with aseptic technique Willingness to work with Colchicine Ability to lift up to 25 lbs Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary/multicultural research team Highly motivated, results oriented, with the ability to work with people individually or in a team to deliver results Possess strong ability to work accurately and pay attention to detail Strong organization skills and ability to prioritize daily tasks Ability to communicate complex ideas in a clear, concise, and actionable manner Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills Willingness to work at multiple sites in the Winnipeg area What we offer: Competitive compensation and rewards package Collaborative, diverse and inclusive culture Career development and global opportunities Work-life flexibility programs such as flex hours, employee discounts, volunteer days, wellness, and other employee offerings Bayer is committed to fostering, cultivating and preserving a culture of Inclusion and Diversity. The base salary range for this role is between $47,200 and $70,800. Additional compensation may include a bonus or incentive compensation. Additional benefits may include insured benefits such as health care, vision, dental, disability, and contributory retirement savings plans, etc. This salary range is an estimate and may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, market data and the applicant’s skills, prior relevant experience, job-related knowledge, specific degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
