Type of position: Regular Your future role on our team BBA is seeking a recognized practice leader or subject matter expert in mine tailings facility management to guide the growth of the practice and maintain technical excellence. With at least 25 years of experience, you’ll serve as the firm’s subject matter expert (SME). You may serve as a technical reviewer for the design of tailings management facilities, waste rock storage facilities and water management infrastructure. You may also serve as Engineer of Record (EOR) for tailings storage facilities and related infrastructure. You’ll establish technical guidelines, ensure rigorous risk and quality management, advise clients at critical stages of the facility life cycle and help develop the next generation of experts. This strategic role combines technical leadership, client engagement, practice development and contributions to complex mining projects in Canada and internationally. Serve as a technical authority and, where required, as the Engineer of Record (EOR) for mine tailings facilities and their related infrastructure Define and refine the vision, standards, methods and tools for the mine tailings facilities management practice Ensure technical governance, risk management and deliverable quality for highly complex or high-stakes facilities Lead or review design studies, safety assessments, stability analyses, water management plans, emergency preparedness plans and decommissioning strategies Advise clients and executive management teams on critical decisions throughout the entire facility life cycle, from planning to closure Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry-recognized best practices and governance frameworks applicable to tailings facilities Chair or contribute to independent reviews, technical audits, risk assessments and review committees Build and maintain trusting relationships with mining companies, regulatory authorities and strategic partners Develop business, position our service offerings and support proposal preparation for major projects Coach, engage and mentor experts and multidisciplinary teams to ensure knowledge transfer and develop the next generation of technical professionals Do your qualities and values match our corporate culture? Entrepreneurial spirit Desire to motivate and train the next generation Inspirational leadership Willingness to work together while having fun Constantly seeking sustainable and agile solutions Rigorous and ethical Ability to share and pass on knowledge Summary Of Certifications And Job Requirements Bachelor’s degree in geological, mining or civil engineering, with a specialization in geotechnical engineering and mine tailings; a graduate degree would be an asset Professional engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Canada and eligible to practise in the provinces or territories subject to the mandates At least 25 years of relevant experience in mine waste management, mining geotechnics or related infrastructure Proven experience as an Engineer of Record (EOR), qualified person, technical manager or principal reviewer for tailings facilities Extensive expertise in design, construction, operation, monitoring, risk management, closure and post-closure monitoring Understanding of regulatory frameworks and industry best practices governing waste management facilities An established technical reputation among clients in the mining sector and ability to influence decisions at the executive level Proven experience in practice development, business development and delivering complex projects Inspiring leadership and a proven ability to mentor experts, resolve technical issues and promote knowledge sharing Advanced English skills to facilitate collaboration with other BBA offices and/or clients in English-speaking Canadian provinces and internationally; you may need to use English occasionally or daily, depending on current projects Advanced French skills to facilitate collaboration with other BBA offices and/or clients in Québec An Overview Of BBA’s Total Rewards Annual premium program for regular employees Onsite mobility premium Time bank Cellphone fee reimbursements Group insurance plan from the first day of employment, including disability insurance and a telemedicine program Retirement savings plan Annual vacation and sick leave Premium for employee referrals BBA considers many factors when determining the annual base salary, including location, market, education, relevant and demonstrated work experience, technical assessment, qualifications, certifications and other relevant skills.
