Job Title: Heavy Duty Mechanic Location: Newfoundland and Labrador Base Rate: $ 62.50/hr. OT: 4 hours daily paid out at $93.75/hr. Schedule: 14X14 - 12-hour days Night Shift Premium: $1.25/hr. Big Country Equipment was formed in 2017. This job is available in Newfoundland and Labrador, and we have many other locations we are looking after across Canada. We primarily serve open-pit and underground mining and construction operations. Duties and Responsibilities: Inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair a variety of heavy equipment and shovel brands. Use computerized and other testing equipment to determine repair needs and create detailed service reports. Transmission and drive-train repairs: repairing or replacing transmission components, differential gears, and drive shafts. Interpret and complete both scheduled and unscheduled work orders. Contribute to the ongoing reliability of all heavy equipment and ensure compliance with preventive maintenance requirements. Test repaired equipment to verify proper maintenance. Make recommendations for repairs and improvement methods. Adhere to all safety protocols, site regulations, and company policies. Maintain up-to-date certification and training as required. Arrive at work fit for duty each day. Requirements: Must have a minimum of 3 years of recent experience in the field, preferably working from a service truck and with off-road construction and mining equipment. Experience with mining equipment is preferred. Machine brands preferably worked on include Hitachi, Komatsu, CAT, and John Deere. Experience with surface drills is considered an asset. Experience with electric and hydraulic shovels will be considered an asset. Must be a Journeyman Heavy Duty Off-Road Technician. A Red Seal is needed. Solid experience in diagnosing and troubleshooting. All Successful Candidates Must: Be proficient in English, both verbally and in writing. Have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License. Provide at least 2 direct supervisor references. Pass a Criminal Record check. Provide a clean 5-year driver’s abstract. Pass an 8-panel drug test (including marijuana) and an alcohol breath test. Be able to lift 50 lbs. comfortably. Not seeking sub-contractor roles (we are not offering subcontractor opportunities at this time).
