JOB SUMMARY BKOM Studios is looking for an experienced Senior 3D Gameplay Animator (Freelance) with a strong specialization in combat animation and movement physics for our PC and console projects. Your playground? The intersection of movement art, gameplay fluidity, and visual impact. Working closely with Art Direction, Programming, and the internal animation team, you will bring high-level expertise to raise the bar, help bring our next game to life by creating a strong and unique visual identity, and contribute to enriching our team's collective talent. TYPE OF POSITION: Freelance Contract (Contract until March 2027, with the possibility of extension). YOUR DAY-TO-DAY (Freelance Mandate) As a 3D Gameplay Animator (Freelance), you will put your expert eye and technical mastery at the service of our games' visual quality. Your mandate centers around key deliverables, carried out in a spirit of collaboration aligned with our core values: Make it your own Design and produce high-quality 3D animations (combat systems, movements, attacks, hit reactions, etc.) in Maya and/or Blender. Ensure your animations comply with technical engine requirements (Unreal Engine) and Animation State Machines logic. Manage your time and priorities independently to ensure the timely delivery of agreed-upon milestones. Level up Together Collaborate with the internal animation team to share best practices, Maya/Blender tips, and enrich collective know-how. Elevate the overall visual standard (raise the bar) by paying meticulous attention to body weight, impact reactions, and the credibility of combat sequences. Document your animation work to ensure a seamless and smooth knowledge transfer with artists and programmers. Humility and Courage Interpret artistic vision and gameplay constraints, then propose creative, dynamic, and impactful animation solutions. Engage in constructive exchanges around creative feedback and dare to propose innovative technical approaches to solve complex production challenges. Assess the quality of provided rigs and make optimization recommendations to maximize delivery fluidity. Profil Experience: Around 10 years of experience in 3D animation within the video game industry, with a strong specialization in combat animation (shipped PC/console titles). Sense of Movement & Physics: Exceptional mastery of weight of movement, timing, dynamism, and gameplay feel. 3D Tools: Strong proficiency in Maya and Blender. Technical & Gameplay: Solid understanding of engine integration (Unreal Engine) and State Machines. Soft Skills: Team player, highly autonomous, curious, supportive mindset, and excellent communication skills (French and/or English). NICE-TO-HAVES Experience with direct engine asset integration and configuration. Knowledge of or interest in narrative sequences (cinematics / cutscenes). Basic knowledge of VFX or shader adjustments. Informations contractuelles Working with BKOM Studios as a freelancer means joining a passionate and talented team on large-scale projects, while enjoying a high degree of flexibility. Contract Type: Freelance assignment through March 2027 (with the possibility of extension). Work Location: Remote (Quebec City, Canada) or hybrid work in Quebec City. Hourly/Daily Rate: Competitive and based on experience and expertise. Workload: Full-time (approximately 37.5 hours per week).
