Black & McDonald’s Facilities Management & Operations (FMO) team is growing! If you are a hands-on, customer service-oriented, and technically inclined professional searching for the opportunity to build a solid foundation for your career, this position is for you. The FMO Carpenter position is located at the Teck Acute Care Centre (TACC) hospital facility in Vancouver and reports directly to the Facility Manager. The FMO Carpenter is responsible for constructing, erecting, installing, and repairing structures, finishing and repairs, installing and repairing doors and hardware, light drywall and painting, installing various fixtures, and assembling and repairing mill/trim work at the TACC site. They will assist other skilled tradespersons and will perform various carpenter and non-carpenter related duties, as assigned by the FMO Facility Manager. The FMO Carpenter will use experience and technical skills to meet client requirements at the work site. The ability to work safely with minimal daily supervision is essential. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine specifications and the specific deliverables Perform material take offs, prepare quotations and order materials Prepare layouts to confirm with building codes Execute building structure, finishings and repair work within set time frames and budgets Manage and report scope, budget or time frame deviations. Fit and install trim items, such as doors, stairs, moulding and hardware Maintain, repair and renovate wooden structures Assist other maintenance trades and perform other duties, i.e. changing filters, etc. Plan and execute work in accordance with Black & McDonald corporate safety policy and provincial regulations Actively participate in promoting a strong safety culture Perform other facility related Construction or repairs at the request of the Facility Manager COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS Communicates Effectively Customer Focus Holds Self and Others Accountable Teamwork and Collaboration Values and Respects Others EDUCATION & WORK REQUIREMENTS 5+ Years Experience in a Carpenter role Red Seal certified Carpenter or equivalent certification is an asset SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS Must be able to follow instructions both written and verbal. Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Excellent problem-solving skills. Able to perform physically demanding tasks on a regular basis (bending/lifting up to 30 kg/moving heavy equipment/materials). Must be able to work on ladder or scaffold at various heights. Maintains a professional demeanor at all times with fellow employees and customers. Must be a team player, committed to working in a quality environment. Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools. Ability to prepare quotes for work within this field. Requires personal protective equipment to be worn, appropriate to the task being performed. Comfortable working in a hospital environment. Must be able to pass RCMP Criminal Record Check Expected compensation for this role is a starting base pay rate of $46.33/hour in accordance with union rates (dependent on skills and experience and trade certifications).
