ABOUT THIS CAREER OPPORTUNITY Reporting to the Regional Vice President, Maritimes, the Estimating Department Manager (EDM) is responsible for overseeing, coordinating and preparation of all estimates for a full range of projects in the industrial, commercial, government, utility, and institutional sectors within their operating region. In addition, the EDM will plan and lead the estimating department functions, including administering operating budgets, staffing, work assignments, salary and performance reviews, etc. The EDM will develop and implement all department procedures in accordance to company policy and review all final estimates to ensure accuracy and completeness. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Manage a team of Estimators; assigning responsibilities and providing oversight, guidance, mentorship and coaching while generating continuous improvement amongst the team Oversee and/or prepare estimates of probable costs of materials, labour and equipment for projects based on contract documents, quotations, drawings and specifications Oversee price packages with suppliers, subcontractors, owners, designers and architects regarding tenders as required Assess risk on estimates and their order of magnitude to consistently formulate tender costs Overall functionality of the department to ensure efficiency and effectiveness Develop and maintain resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, government requirements, etc. Develop and manage data/metrics to improve and support a successful estimating process Maintain and grow relationships with clients, consultants and subcontractors Actively participates in industry, client and community relations to enhance company image COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS Leadership skills including superior communication (both written and oral) Able to adapt and respond to change Analytically skilled and results oriented Superior Planning and Organization Skills Strong attention to detail with ability to see overarching themes Continuous Learning Customer Focus Holds Self and Others Accountable Problem Solving and Innovation Maximizes Business Performance and Team Effectiveness Leadership, Teamwork and Collaboration Values and Respects Others EDUCATION & SKILL REQUIREMENTS Degree in either construction or business management or engineering (Electrical, Mechanical or Civil), or; diploma in trade engineering technology, or; combined equivalent in-trade experience and office experience PMP designation, Gold Seal Certification, Construction safety certifications and/or MBA would be considered an asset. Experience managing teams Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Strong leadership and team management abilities Problem-solving and decision-making skills WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Minimum of 5-10 years’ experience in estimating SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS In-depth knowledge of estimating platforms such as Accubid, Autobid, bid2win or Excel Construction scheduling, planning, and execution Understanding of construction documents Business operations processes Organization and time management Please be advised that a Criminal Background Check and Professional Reference Check will be required as part of our employment screening and selection process.
