Finish Excavator - Civil Construction Location: Alberta (Central / Northern Projects) Company: Blackline Civil Position Type: Full-Time About the Role We’re looking for a skilled and safety-driven Finish Excavator with experience in underground construction. In this role, you’ll be responsible for precise excavation around live utilities and installation of underground infrastructure such as water, sewer, and storm systems. Key Responsibilities Operate excavators for trenching, backfilling, grading, and utility installation Safely expose existing underground utilities Work around live gas, electrical, water, and telecom lines Follow grade stakes, trench depths, and site plans with precision Coordinate closely with pipe layers, labourers, and supervisors Conduct daily pre-trip inspections and routine equipment maintenance Maintain trench safety in compliance with regulations (shoring, sloping, benching) Ensure all work is performed according to safety standards and project specs Qualifications & Experience 2+ years of excavator experience in underground or civil construction Proven experience working around live utilities Strong understanding of trenching and excavation safety practices Ability to read grade stakes, plans, and utility drawings Valid driver’s license Ground disturbance certification What We’re Looking For Knowledge of municipal underground infrastructure installation Ability to make decisions quickly and solve problems in the field High accountability Team-first mindset with a focus on execution Commitment to safety, quality, and getting the job done right What We Offer Competitive salary based on experience Extended health and benefits package Opportunity to grow with a rapidly expanding civil division Strong pipeline of work across Alberta

What you’ll do

Requirements

Requires 2+ years of excavator experience in civil construction and a valid driver's license. Must possess ground disturbance certification and the ability to read utility drawings and grade stakes.
