The Opportunity: DS is currently seeking an Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer to join our team. Key Responsibilities: Assisting in proposal preparation Co-ordinating subcontractors, laboratory testing, documentation for geotechnical investigations Supervising borehole drilling, test pit supervision Managing clients and contractors Analytical work for slope stability, settlement analysis, soil improvement Write geotechnical reports and prepare cost estimates and proposals Provide technical services in a field and laboratory environment Duties might include but not limited to site inspections, material testing (soil, asphalt, concrete) using nuclear gauge, material sampling, data collection and general geotechnical work supervision Providing technical assistance in materials related projects and tasks, including carrying out field and laboratory testing of various materials on construction sites, in-situ density testing and testing of concrete and asphalt materials Summarizing and analyzing findings from investigations and lab testing for report writing Ensuring workplace health and safety practices are always followed Work with and provide support to other members of the field technician group in assisting with other field and office activities as required Key Qualifications, Skills & Education: Degree or Post-secondary education in geotechnical, civil or geological engineering or related filed. Five (5) – eight (8) years related experience in geotechnical engineering field investigations (preferably in a consulting environment) is an asset Proficiency with common geotechnical and other software Good understanding of geotechnical investigations on high-rise and low-rise development projects Must be mobile and willing to work on a combination of field and office work, as travel will be required Strong workplace health and safety practices Flexible, well organized, interested in technical and personal advancement Ability able to carry out assignments with minimal supervision Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, strong report writing skills and verbal communication in English are essential Knowledge of environmental and hydrogeological investigation work Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
