Depth over drills. Small-group Beast Academy math enrichment for curious Grade 1–5 students in Toronto.
Toronto, Ontario
Boya Math (博雅数学) is a small-group math enrichment school in Toronto for students in Grades 1–5 who enjoy math and want to go further with it. We teach with Beast Academy, the elementary curriculum from Art of Problem Solving (AoPS), built around problem solving rather than repetition. Classes are capped at four students, meet once a week, and are led by instructors who understand both mathematics and how children learn. Our aim is for a student to be able to explain their reasoning out loud — to take a hard problem apart, simplify it, and describe how they got there. Our approach draws on Beast Academy, Singapore Math, and other established traditions, shaped by conversations with leading math educators in Canada, the United States, and China. It goes well beyond the depth of the Ontario elementary curriculum, with a particular emphasis on applied problem solving. Students who complete the Beast Academy sequence are well prepared for AoPS middle school courses, contest math (MathCounts, AMC 8, Math Kangaroo), and later work in programming and algorithms. Two campuses: Gordon Baker Road (headquarters) and Bayview Avenue. The regular year runs September through June; summer sessions run July through August.
