The opportunity This position is responsible for supporting field operations at a marine demolition project for Bridgemans. Incumbents are responsible for supporting Derrick barge operations in the demolition of a marine terminal/dock facility. Typically, this position will work closely with the Project/Barge Superintendent, Foreman, Crane Operator, Welders, Vessel Captains, and other skilled craft personnel. Key Responsibilities Deck Engineer must support the guiding beliefs and core values of Bridgeman's which are centered on Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Teamwork. Responsibilities include unloading, assembling, and maintaining various barge equipment such as Vibratory hammers, hoses, power packs, generators, spuds, and various hydraulic equipment. Handling various types of piling materials (concrete, steel, timber) demolished from the Wharf. Assisting in the layout, positioning, and extraction of concrete, sheet, and timber pilings. Deck Engineer must be able to interpret blueprints, follow hand signals, ensure safe crane operations, and collaborate with barge crew and subcontractors to complete tasks efficiently and safely. Active participation in safety and environmental programs is essential. Fuels, lubricates, and maintains the all-barge equipment. Assists with the installation of silt curtains, debris booms, buoys, anchors, etc. as directed by the Superintendent or Construction Director. Employs knowledge of construction rigging, such as use of slings, cable chokers, spreader bars, and multi-part load blocks, to complete crane hoisting tasks. Uses oxygen/acetylene welding torch to cut steel plates, pipes, beams, etc. Uses pneumatic power tools - drills, countersinks, and tuggers - as required. Works with Crane Operator to maneuver and position loads over designated areas in a smooth, safe manner. Equipment Operation – Workskiff, Skidsteer, Telehandler, Boom lift and other equipment operation as and when required. Qualification and Experience Welding (CWB) FCAW tickets are considered an asset. Prior experience operating barge equipment such as Vibratory hammers, hoses, power packs, generators, spuds, and various hydraulic equipment. Experience with construction rigging and crane operations, including slings, chokers, spreader bars, and load blocks. Minimum required certifications/training: Marine First Aid/CPR, MED DVS, WHMIS, Fall Protection, Rigging/Basic Rigging, and project-required medical/fitness-for-duty clearance. Able to meet and maintain all project, vessel, and client site access, medical, and fitness-for-duty requirements and pass drug and alcohol clearance. Physical and Working Requirements The position is primarily site-based and includes outdoor work in a marine and industrial environment. Requirements
