Landfill Operator Location: Slave Lake/Marten Hills, AB Type: Permanent - Full time position Pay Rate Range: $32/h - $42/h Schedule: 7 days on / 7 days off | 12-hour shifts About the Role We are seeking an experienced Landfill Operator to join our team in Slave Lake/Marten Hills, Alberta. This role is designed for an operator who brings substantial heavy equipment experience and ideally has previous landfill or waste management experience. You'll play an important role in supporting day-to-day operations while helping establish best practices and contributing to the ongoing success of the facility. If you're a seasoned operator who enjoys taking ownership, making decisions in the field, and mentoring less experienced team members, this opportunity may be the next step in your career. As a Landfill Operator, you'll be responsible for ensuring landfill operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory requirements. Key responsibilities include: Operating dozers, loaders, compactors, and other heavy equipment Managing waste placement, grading, and landfill working faces Supporting daily landfill operations and site logistics Interpreting and working within facility operating approvals Monitoring incoming materials and waste acceptance requirements Maintaining haul roads and site infrastructure Performing equipment inspections and coordinating maintenance activities Issuing Safe Work Permits and ensuring safe execution of work Supporting compliance with environmental, safety, and operational standards Participating in audits, inspections, and safety meetings Maintaining accurate operational records and reporting Identifying opportunities for operational improvements Assisting with the development and continuous improvement of procedures Providing guidance and support to other operators when required What We're Looking For Required Qualifications Significant heavy equipment operating experience Strong operating proficiency on dozers, loaders, and compactors Experience in industrial, oilfield, construction, mining, environmental, or waste management operations Strong understanding of safety and regulatory compliance Ability to work independently and make sound operational decisions Valid driver's license Highly Preferred Previous landfill operations experience Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) landfill experience Waste management or environmental services experience Experience interpreting landfill operating procedures and approvals Experience mentoring or training operators What You'll Bring Leadership through action Strong problem-solving skills High attention to detail Excellent judgment and accountability Ability to balance hands-on work with documentation and compliance requirements Commitment to doing things safely and correctly every time Schedule 7 days on / 7 days off 12-hour shifts Day and night shifts may be required Compensation & Benefits Competitive hourly wage: $32 to $42 per hour, depending on experience Health and dental benefits Health Spending Account Vacation pay Sick days Statutory holiday pay Professional development and training opportunities Please note: Local candidates are strongly preferred.
