Job details

Veterinarian (DVM) – After-Hours Urgent Care Introduction We are hiring an Associate Veterinarian (DVM) for one of our veterinary clients in Belleville, Ontario. This opportunity is ideal for a veterinarian who enjoys emergency and urgent care medicine and is confident working independently in a fast-paced clinical environment. This clinic provides after-hours urgent care services for companion animals, supporting patients that require prompt assessment, stabilization, and treatment outside of regular veterinary hospital hours. While not a referral center, the facility is well-equipped to manage a wide variety of urgent and emergency cases before referral when necessary. You will be supported by an experienced clinical team and have access to diagnostic equipment, including radiography, while serving as the primary attending veterinarian during your shifts. This position offers a unique schedule focused on weekends and after-hours coverage, providing flexibility and the opportunity to practice a broad scope of medicine while making a meaningful impact on patient care. Responsibilities Provide high-quality urgent and emergency veterinary care during after-hours shifts. Independently assess, diagnose, and manage a wide range of unpredictable emergency presentations. Perform stabilization, treatment, and surgical procedures as required. Manage cases including trauma, respiratory emergencies, allergic reactions, toxicities, wound management, and other walk-in urgent care situations. Perform emergency surgeries when clinically appropriate, including procedures such as cesarean sections and amputations. Determine when referral to specialty or emergency hospitals is required and coordinate patient transfers. Collaborate closely with veterinary technicians and support staff to ensure excellent patient outcomes and client communication. Maintain accurate medical records and uphold the highest standards of veterinary medicine. Requirements Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree. Fully licensed, or eligible to be fully licensed, with the College of Veterinarians of Ontario (CVO). Strong emergency, urgent care, or general practice experience with the ability to work independently. Comfortable making critical decisions without on-site veterinarian support. Confident managing medical and surgical emergencies. Strong communication, leadership, and client-relations skills. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and unpredictable clinical environment. Schedule Primarily weekend after-hours coverage. Typical schedule consists of approximately three 12- to 14-hour shifts per weekend. Coverage generally includes Friday evenings through Sunday evenings. Clinic operating hours may vary between evening and overnight schedules. What We Offer Why apply through Brunel?
