Burnet, Duckworth & Palmer LLP is seeking a highly motivated and outcome-focused Corporate/Commercial Litigation Associate to join our litigation group in Calgary. BD&P is one of Calgary’s leading full-service law firms, with more than 120 lawyers practicing across virtually every area of business law and litigation. Our litigation team works on a broad range of complex corporate and commercial disputes, often opposite national and international firms, while maintaining the collegiality, independence, and entrepreneurial spirit that make BD&P distinct. The successful candidate will be called to the bar between 2022 and 2024 and will be looking to build their practice with one of Calgary’s most active litigation teams. About the Role This is an opportunity for a litigation associate who enjoys complex files, practical problem solving, strategic advocacy, and direct client service. The successful candidate will work with experienced litigators on sophisticated corporate and commercial disputes while developing their own judgment, skills, and client relationships in a collaborative team environment. The Ideal Candidate Will Have: A license and be in good standing to practice law in a Canadian jurisdiction; 2 to 4 years of related experience from a reputable national or top-tier boutique litigation firm; Demonstrated experience in corporate/commercial litigation; The ability to analyze and communicate complex legal issues in a practical, client-focused manner; Strong negotiation skills and the ability to advocate effectively and strategically in settlement discussions and other dispute resolution contexts; Exceptional client service, interpersonal and communication skills; Strong organizational abilities, attention to detail, and confidence to take initiative; and A demonstrated ability to be responsive, adaptable, eager to learn, and comfortable working in a collaborative and collegial environment.
