Senior Geologist Canada Fluorspar (NL) Inc. (CFI) Location: St. Lawrence, Newfoundland & Labrador Department: Technical Services / Geology Position: Senior Geologist The Opportunity Canada Fluorspar (NL) Inc. is seeking an experienced Senior Geologist to join our team in St. Lawrence, Newfoundland and Labrador. This is a senior technical leadership opportunity for an experienced mining professional who wants to play an important role in an evolving mining operation. The successful candidate will provide leadership and technical oversight for geological activities supporting our current open-pit operations, while also contributing to the planning and development required for the Company's future transition toward underground mining. The Senior Geologist will work closely with Mine Operations, Mine Engineering, Technical Services and other key functions to ensure geological information is effectively incorporated into operational decisions, mine planning, resource development and long-term strategy. We are looking for someone who combines strong technical expertise with practical operational judgment, leadership capability and financial accountability. What You'll Be Responsible ForGeological Leadership & Technical Oversight You will provide overall direction and technical leadership for geological activities across the operation, including: Establishing geological priorities, work plans and technical standards; Providing technical oversight for geological interpretation and modelling; Reviewing resource estimates, grade-control programs and reconciliation results; Ensuring geological information is effectively incorporated into operational and strategic decision-making; Maintaining appropriate professional, regulatory and corporate standards; and Supporting technical reporting and disclosure requirements, including NI 43-101 requirements where applicable. Open-Pit & Underground Mine Integration A key aspect of this position is supporting both current operations and future mine development. The Senior Geologist will: Lead geological input into open-pit mine design, sequencing and grade-control strategies; Support geological planning for future underground development; Assess geological risks and ground conditions relevant to underground mine planning; Work closely with Mine Engineering to integrate geological considerations into development strategies; and Ensure geological information supports short-, medium- and long-term mine plans. Candidates with meaningful experience in both open-pit and underground mining environments will be particularly well suited to this opportunity. Drill & Blast The Senior Geologist will also provide geological leadership and coordination in support of drill-and-blast activities. Responsibilities will include: Working closely with Mine Engineering, Operations and contractors; Ensuring geological conditions are appropriately considered in blast planning and execution; Reviewing blast outcomes and performance; Supporting improvements in fragmentation, dilution and ore recovery; and Identifying opportunities to improve operational performance through stronger integration of geology, engineering and production activities. Exploration & Resource Development You will provide technical direction for exploration and resource-development activities that support the continued development and future of the operation. This will include: Providing oversight for exploration drilling and geological investigation programs; Evaluating drilling and exploration results; Identifying and recommending resource-development opportunities; Supporting opportunities to extend mine life; Contributing to resource-to-reserve conversion; and Collaborating with engineering and technical teams on future development opportunities. Leadership & Team Development This is not solely a technical position. We are looking for an experienced professional who can provide leadership to the geology function and help develop the people around them. The Senior Geologist will: Provide leadership, mentorship and technical guidance to geologists and geological technicians; Establish priorities and assign work; Review technical outputs and ensure quality and consistency; Develop technical capability within the team; Support training and competency development; Promote collaboration between Geology, Engineering and Operations; and Contribute to succession and long-term capability development within the geology function. Budget & Cost Accountability Strong financial awareness is important in this role. The successful candidate will have responsibility for developing, managing and monitoring applicable geology, exploration and drill-and-blast budgets. This includes: Monitoring expenditures against approved budgets and forecasts; Identifying cost risks and variances; Prioritizing expenditures based on operational and strategic requirements; Identifying opportunities for cost optimization; Working collaboratively with Finance, Procurement and contractors; Supporting annual budgeting and forecasting; and Contributing to long-range planning. Data Governance & Technical Reporting The Senior Geologist will be accountable for maintaining the integrity and quality of geological information used throughout the operation. Responsibilities include: Maintaining accurate and reliable geological data; Reviewing technical reports and presentations; Supporting internal and external technical reporting; Providing geological input into permitting and environmental requirements; and Supporting technical studies associated with future mine development. Safety Leadership Safety is a fundamental expectation of this position. The Senior Geologist will demonstrate visible leadership and accountability for health, safety and environmental performance within the geology function and ensure geological and related activities are conducted in accordance with site requirements and applicable regulatory standards. What We're Looking ForEducation & Professional Designation Candidates should have: A Bachelor's degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, Mining Engineering or a related discipline; A P.Geo., P.Eng. or equivalent professional designation in good standing; and Post-graduate education is considered an asset. Experience The successful candidate will bring a minimum of 10 years of progressive mining geology or geological engineering experience, including demonstrated experience in: Open-pit mining; Underground mining; Technical leadership; Drill-and-blast programs; Resource development and geological interpretation; Mine planning integration; Budget development and cost control; and Leading or mentoring technical professionals. A strong understanding of the relationship between geology, mine design, blasting performance, dilution, ore recovery and operational execution is important for success in this position.
