The Canadian Mental Health Association,Windsor-Essex County Branch has been part of the health care delivery system of this community since 1971. As a charter of the Canadian Mental Health Association, CMHA Windsor-Essex County Branch is part of a national network of 135 service providers, 33 of which are in Ontario. Mental illness is actually very common. More people experienced mental disorders last year than any other illness - more than stroke, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, and epilepsy combined. According to the most recent (1996) statistics available from the District Health Council, there are about 62,000 people having trouble with their mental health in Windsor and Essex County. CMHA offers a range of services to help virtually all people in our area. We have services for the most seriously mentally ill, we have services for people who are working through some of life's difficulties, and we have educational services that target the public.
