Job summary

Cascadia Scientific is looking for a Senior Data Scientist for a 4–6 month contract position, with the potential for a longer-term engagement. You’ll develop advanced analytics and machine-learning solutions for mining and heavy-equipment applications, working with large volumes of sensor, GPS, fuel, CAN bus, and operational telemetry to improve equipment productivity, fuel efficiency, and mining operations. This role goes beyond traditional data science. You’ll investigate real-world data quality issues, understand the physical systems behind the data, develop robust analytical methodologies and production-ready algorithms, and translate findings into actionable recommendations for mining customers. What You’ll Do Develop and deploy machine-learning, statistical, and physics-informed models. Analyze large-scale equipment telemetry, GPS/GNSS, fuel, CAN bus, and sensor data. Develop event detection, anomaly detection, clustering, regression, and geospatial analytics. Investigate sensor failures, calibration issues, missing data, and telemetry gaps. Build scalable, production-ready Python data pipelines using SQL/Postgres, APIs, and cloud infrastructure. Work with software, engineering, product, customer success, and field teams to move analytical solutions into production. Communicate complex findings clearly to technical, operational, and customer audiences. Translate data-driven insights into measurable business value for mining operations. What You Bring Required: 5+ years of relevant experience in data science, engineering/industrial analytics, or mining technology. Advanced Python (Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, SciPy). Strong SQL and experience working with large datasets. Strong foundation in statistics, regression, and machine learning. Experience working with sensor or industrial data and understanding the physical systems behind measurements. Strong data visualization and analytical communication skills. Experience developing maintainable, scalable analytical code beyond notebooks. Ability to independently solve ambiguous, real-world problems. Strong Assets: Mining or heavy mobile equipment experience. Geospatial analytics and GPS/GNSS trajectory data. CAN bus, equipment telemetry, fuel systems, or vehicle dynamics. Event/anomaly detection using multivariate sensor data. APIs, cloud infrastructure, and production ML deployment. Git and collaborative software development. Mining, Mechanical, Physics, or other quantitative engineering background. Portuguese or Spanish in addition to English. The Ideal Candidate We’re looking for someone who can connect the full chain: Physical Problem → Data Investigation → Analytical Methodology → Model/Algorithm → Validation → Production → Operational Recommendation You’re comfortable questioning whether a pattern represents a real operational insight or simply a sensor artifact—and whether an analytical solution will remain reliable across different equipment and mine sites.
