Job details
The City of Dawson is seeking applications for a CASUAL Waste Collection Driver. Under the direction of the Waste Management Supervisor, this position is responsible for solid waste collection and disposal to ensure delivery of service to the public. Duties include supporting operations of waste collection services in a skillful and safe manner and performing routine manual work involving considerable physical effort and agility in the collection and disposal of solid waste. This position involves physical labour, and requires the ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds). Work is performed both indoors and outdoors so applicant must be prepared for both extreme heat and cold. Certifications: Standard First Aid, Level C CPR Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence WHMIS Transportation of Dangerous Goods Education, Knowledge & Skills: Grade 12 or GED Working knowledge of waste collection and waste diversion General knowledge of materials, tools and equipment used in garbage and recycling work Courteous and pleasant manner in dealing with staff and citizens. Good communication skills, both oral and written. Organisational and time management skills. Problem solving and conflict resolution skills. Discretion, tact, compassion, good judgement and cultural sensitivity Ability to resolve conflicts and foster unity Ability to work effectively alone and as part of a team Ability to work flexible hours Ability to maintain confidentiality Valid Class 3 Driver’s License an asset A job description is available upon request. Salary & Benefits: This is a Union position, salary and benefits shall be in accordance with the Collective Agreement. The position is classified as level 3 with an annual salary range of $64,918 – $77,900 plus benefits.
