Job summary
The City of Delta is seeking qualified candidates for the exempt temporary full time role of Solid Waste Services Manager with an anticipated duration of 12 to 16 months. The Manager, Solid Waste Services provides leadership and oversight of the City’s solid waste program, including waste collection, recycling, organics, waste diversion, and sustainability initiatives. Responsibilities include planning, delivery, administration, and continuous improvement of services to support efficient, sustainable, and customer-focused operations. The incumbent will provide leadership in service delivery, strategic planning, regulatory compliance, contract management, budget administration, public engagement, and environmental stewardship to support automation of solid waste collection initiatives, water conservation, and the overall solid waste program. The Manager leads and supports staff by providing technical expertise, operational guidance, and continuous process improvements, while evaluating collection methods, service levels, and opportunities to enhance program performance. This position leads and participates in the procurement processes, including the development of specifications and tenders, evaluation of proposals, project delivery, and contract administration. The successful candidate will possess strong leadership, communication, problem-solving skills, along with demonstrated experience in contract management, financial planning, contract negotiation, and project delivery. The ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, sound judgement and navigating operational and political environments is essential. A degree in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Management, Engineering, or a related discipline, along with 5-7 years of progressive related experience, preferably within a municipal or regional government setting is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. The City of Delta provides a competitive salary of $101,286 - $120,788 and a comprehensive benefits package, including a Defined Benefit Pension Plan with Special Agreement option (Municipal Pension Plan), as well as an earned-days-off system.
