As a Labourer II, you will ensure proper maintenance and beautification of municipal cemeteries and traditional burial grounds while providing exceptional customer service to patrons and guests. Your ability to work with minimal supervision in a changing, sensitive environment will contribute to the success of City service delivery and operational goals. What will you do? Interact with the public in a professional manner, especially in sensitive situations Accommodate various cultural group traditions including pall bearing for casket services Operate and complete minor maintenance on equipment Operate hand tools such as planners, power saw/drills and bull float Dig and locate graves, make frames, mix concrete and install monuments/headstones Read surveyed grades and design blueprints, ensuring accurate locating of construction points Perform interments and disinterments which include the removing, handling and transporting of human remains Assist with all site maintenance activities which includes snow removal with various equipment/tools, and beautification of cemetery properties Construct forms, mix concrete, install grave markers and fine finish edges around grave markers Locate grave locations without clear reference points in surveyed and unsurveyed cemeteries Perform related work as required Completion of Grade 10, High School Diploma is preferred 1 year labour experience including maintenance, landscaping, concrete work, or groundskeeping duties, in cemeteries, parks or a similar work environment Assets: Previous customer service experience in a field operations setting Knowledge of cemetery interment procedures and of various cultural/religious beliefs and traditions Heavy Equipment Certificates/working knowledge (Skid Steer, Backhoe, etc) Current Intermediate First Aid, CPR, and AED Certificates Skills required for success: Demonstrated ability to interact with the public in a professional manner, especially in sensitive situations Ability to safely operate equipment and vehicles within confined spaces Physically able to perform the assigned tasks and duties of the position, including manual labour and the use of simple hand/or power tools and light motor vehicles for long periods of time in various weather and environmental conditions Ability to work independently and as part of a team Excellent communication, interpersonal, customer service, organization, time management and prioritization skills required Alignment to our Cultural Commitments and Leadership Competencies Embracing a culture of equity, diversity, reconciliation and inclusion Conditions of Employment: Valid Class 5 driver’s license (or provincial equivalent).
