File Number: 3793 Employee Group: Casual Service Area: Neighbourhood and Community-Wide Services Division: Community Development and Grants ​Job Type: Casual # of Openings: 10 Summary: Role: Reporting to the Supervisor, Aquatics, the Aquatic Leadership Instructor is responsible for preparing and delivering aquatic leadership courses such as Bronze Cross, Bronze Medalion, Standard or Intermediate First Aid, Emergency or Basic First Aid, and Airway Management. This casual position works as part of a team in a public facing fast paced aquatic environment providing high quality programs while providing excellent customer service.Job Responsibilities Lead high quality aquatic leadership courses activities that meet the requirements of the governing body (ie Lifesaving Society). Supervise course participants and ensure safety at all times. Create and implement course plans with the support of resources provided by Lifesaving Society and Recreation and Sport Supervisors. Maintain daily records of attendance, accident reports, etc. Demonstrate excellent customer service skills and a positive and professional attitude when communicating with participants, parents, the public, and co-workers. Ensure that equipment and facilities are in safe working condition and report any concerns to the Aquatic Coordinator/Supervisor. Demonstrate commitment to anti-racism, anti-oppression, and human rights through practices and interactions with community partners, employees and individuals and support programs and initiatives that reflect this commitment. Demonstrate commitment and adherence to Health and Safety legislation and programs; actively promote a culture of safety. Perform other related duties as assigned by Supervisor. Qualifications: Current Standard or Intermediate First Aid Certificate Current Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor (SI) Certificate Current Lifesaving Society Instructor (LSI) Certificate Current National Lifeguard Certificate Vulnerable Persons Police Screening Certification as required for the course being taught i.e. Bronze Examiner, First Aid Instructor. Skills and Abilities: Ability to demonstrate good communication, high energy, enthusiasm and continued positive attitude. Demonstrated interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team. High level of comfort in fast paced public facing environments. Second language is an asset (please indicate on resume). Other Information: Updated qualifications include Standard or Intermediate First Aid (prior to the start of employment). Starting Wage: $18.75 per hour.
