The Financial Controller role is central to the organization's finance function, reporting to the Director of Finance and leading a team that ensures strong financial controls, accurate reporting, and compliance with not-for-profit and government funding requirements. This is an opportunity to own the full accounting lifecycle, from month-end close through external audit preparation. You'll manage accounts payable and accounts receivable, oversee financial reporting to stakeholders, and drive process improvements that strengthen operations. The role offers meaningful scope to influence how the finance function scales, supported by a leadership team that values operational rigor and strategic partnership. Key Responsibilities Lead all financial reporting processes, including monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities, ensuring accuracy and timeliness Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, maintaining strong internal controls and process efficiency Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements Ensure compliance with not-for-profit accounting standards and government funding requirements, including preparation of funder reports Lead month-end close process and support variance analysis to identify business drivers Manage external audit relationships, lead audit preparation, and resolve audit findings Support annual budget development, forecasts, and long-range financial planning Partner with department leaders to provide financial insights and decision-making support Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and scalability Oversee ERP and financial systems to ensure data integrity and optimal utilization Provide leadership, mentorship, and performance management for finance team members Support ad hoc financial analysis and strategic initiatives as required What You Bring Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field; CPA designation required with public accounting background 5+ years of accounting experience with demonstrated leadership in financial operations Hands-on expertise in full-cycle accounting, including month-end and year-end close processes Proven ability to support or lead external audits and implement process improvements Strong understanding of internal controls, financial reporting standards, and regulatory requirements Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with ERP systems Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines Nice to Have Experience in not-for-profit accounting and government funding compliance Background in healthcare or broader public sector environment Knowledge of Ontario health funding models (LHIN/Ontario Health) Next Steps We do appreciate all interest; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
