Finance & Accounting Consultant Employment Type: Contract (9 months) Location: Remote / Hybrid, North York Rate: $75-80hr Industry: Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Position Type: Backfill About the Opportunity Our client is Canada's largest Canadian-owned pharmaceutical company, with a global footprint. Two years ago they acquired a Canadian natural health business, and that business is now at the start of an SAP implementation. IT, supply chain and finance are all significantly affected, and finance is moving from QuickBooks to SAP. The finance team supporting the acquired business is lean, with six people, and the current state is finely tuned. Documentation is light, and a lot of the know-how sits in how the team runs its proprietary processes. This Interim Controller contract frees the core team to focus on SAP testing, design and integration while you step into the existing environment and keep month end and day-to-day accounting running. You'll work alongside the Assistant Controller and cover financial reporting, operational finance and budgeting support. It suits a hands-on Controller who can run a full close one week and shift to day-to-day accounting the next, and who is comfortable in an environment that is still taking shape. Key Responsibilities Step into month end and day-to-day accounting for the existing team, running the full close or supporting it as priorities shift Support the Assistant Controller across financial reporting and operational finance Maintain and review standard costing, including variance analysis and the related inventory and COGS entries at month end Support the audit, including preparing schedules and responding to auditor requests Assist the FP&A team with budgeting, pulling queries and reviewing trends with department heads Liaise with department heads on where results are trending against plan Keep existing processes running cleanly so the core team can focus on SAP testing, design and integration Capture how things are done today and build SOPs where documentation is missing Flag business-specific processes that may be lost in the move from QuickBooks to SAP What You Bring Controller-level accounting experience, including running a full month end close Experience in financial reporting and operational finance Strong communication skills, with the ability to work with department heads and cross-functional teams Comfort in an evolving environment with limited documentation Ability to move between running the full close and day-to-day accounting Experience in a lean finance team where you do the work yourself Nice to Have QuickBooks and SAP knowledge Experience supporting an ERP implementation or migration Pharmaceutical or consumer health industry background Next Steps We do appreciate all interest; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
