Position Overview We are seeking a versatile and business-minded Legal and Regulatory Counsel to join our Legal & Regulatory team based in Montréal. Reporting to the Vice President, Regulatory and Corporate Affairs, the Legal and Regulatory Counsel’s role will play a meaningful role in handling a wide variety of legal and regulatory matters. Acting as a trusted advisor to multidisciplinary teams and the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), the successful candidate will balance a strong commercial mindset with regulatory expertise, translating complex legal issues into pragmatic, business-oriented solutions. Key Responsibilities Serve as an expert on telecommunications and broadcasting legal and regulatory matters and support internal partners and diverse operational teams. Interpret, draft and negotiate a wide variety of commercial agreements, including procurement contracts, network management agreements, real estate leases, and strategic partnerships. Identify, assess, and minimize legal and commercial risks related to new operational, technology, and marketing initiatives across Canada and the U.S. Provide practical legal advice to business leaders and internal teams on a broad range of commercial, operational, and strategic projects. Advise the business on developing regulatory proceedings, policy frameworks, and administrative law matters in Canada and the United States. Develop and execute regulatory advocacy strategies before key regulatory and administrative bodies, including the CRTC and the FCC. Guide internal teams on compliance with applicable legislation relating to telecommunications, broadcasting, technology, consumer protection, and competition. Closely monitor changes in laws, policies, and regulatory decisions impacting the telecommunications and media sectors and proactively align business operations with shifting legal environments. Provide legal advice and strategic support on corporate disputes, investigations, customer complaints, and claims. Supervise and coordinate external law firms for complex litigation, cross-border transactions, and specialized regulatory mandates to ensure cost-effective and successful outcomes. Profile and Qualifications Education: Bachelor of Laws (LL.B., B.C.L., J.D., or equivalent) and member in good standing of a Canadian provincial bar (Quebec Bar or Board of Notaries preferred). Experience: Generally a minimum of 5-8 years of relevant, high-level legal experience gained in a top-tier law firm, corporate legal department, or regulatory body. Industry Mastery: Deep expertise in telecommunications, media, technology, consumer protection, or regulatory/administrative law. Cross-Border Exposure: Strong mastery of Canadian legal and regulatory frameworks, with demonstrated exposure to U.S. legal and regulatory matters considered a strong asset. Bilingualism: Faultless proficiency in both French and English (oral and written) is required for daily engagement with internal leadership, external regulatory bodies, and international partners. Executive Presence & Collaboration: Strong communication skills with the capability to influence executive leadership, build alignment across multidisciplinary teams, and manage key external relationships.
