Summary The Underground Superintendent is responsible for the safe and efficient planning, execution and completion of underground utility and road-related projects or multiple job sites to the required specifications. This role is a field leader who oversees day-to-day operations, coordinates crews and subcontractors, enforces safety and quality standards, and resolves issues that arise on-site. Key Responsibilities Ensure sufficient deployment and productivity of work crews. Engage in open communication with Project Managers, Operations Managers and Division Managers and report any issues which could affect project plans. Allocate resources where appropriate to achieve project safety, schedule, cost, scope, and quality objectives. Place orders and track the timely delivery of underground materials and aggregates for company operated and third-party sources. Organize and coordinate the daily activities of all crew members, subcontractors, equipment and utilize corrective action to keep the project on time and on budget. Ensure payment in full for the contract price, including all accumulative charges and credits. Identify and execute best practices concerning the efficient use of construction materials. Plan work in an efficient and effective order, maximizing progress in a safe and timely manner. Monitor and manage employee attendance, ensuring the timely arrival and participation of all crew members, and notifying employees of rain days, prior to the start of the work. Delegate tasks and accountabilities, instruct, supervise, lead, and direct crews. Liaise between the company and employees on a variety of employee related matters. Promote, execute, and adhere to the company’s safety program, and encourage all employees, sub-contractors, and consultants to adopt safety as a culture. Work with Safety Department to investigate damage, incidents or near misses in the worksite, and ensure proper procedures are carried out according to the Company’s Safety Program. Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself, or endanger the wellbeing of others. Qualifications | Requirements High School diploma or G.E.D preferred Class 5 driver’s license required Minimum 10+ years experience within the water and sewer construction industry Minimum 5-8 years experience in a supervisory capacity, preferably as Superintendent Minimum 5 years supervisory experience in an underground role Working Conditions Out of town travel may be required. Accommodations and/ or LOA is provided in most situations. Overtime as required. Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt. Work may be performed in an indoor setting, which could include sitting or standing for extended periods of time, and extended computer use including exposure to blue-light and wrist dexterity. Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 50 LBS on a regular basis. Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required. Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol testing requirements.
