Location: Saanich Cells Shifts: On-call/casual Starting Wage: $26/hr plus RRSP contributions by employer and shift premiums Job Responsibilities Basic Guard Services include but are not limited to the following duties: Booking prisoners in and safe keeping of prisoner’s personal effects while in custody. Perform periodic visual prisoner condition checks. Continuously monitor prisoner condition through an electronic monitoring system. Perform data entry and basic computer use. Search cells after prisoner departure. Assist Police Officers in physical searches. Collect soiled laundry for cleaning on a daily basis. Order and distribute prisoner meals. Prepare notes on unusual/significant circumstances for potential court appearances. Prepare and maintain all prisoner records and forward to appropriate divisions. Maintain all logbooks. Be familiar with and adhere to all Saanich Police Department goal policy and procedures. Keep holding facility stocked with inventories supplied through Police Department property and supply. Fingerprint civilians applying for criminal record checks, pardons, visa applications etc. as required. Fingerprint people charged with an offence who return at a later date for fingerprinting. When time permits and as required complete a criminal check. Additional Guard Services include but are not limited to the following duties: Additional Guard Personnel in the event of an excessive prisoner-to-guard ratio. Off site Guard duties of prisoners as required. Qualifications and Experience Must hold a valid Occupational First Aid Level 2 Certificate (OFA 2) or willing to be train. Must be able to pass polygraph and police background check. Must be fluent in English (written and spoken). Ability to remain in control under trying conditions. Capacity to be discrete and work effectively with other people. Willingness to undergo training as required. Willingness to accept responsibility and work independently. Adequate physical condition - able to lift objects, walk stairs, etc. Conscientious, enthusiastic, and reliable. Benefits and Perks Training Opportunities for advancement. Requirements
Candidates must hold a valid Occupational First Aid Level 2 Certificate or be willing to train. Applicants must also be able to pass a polygraph and police background check while demonstrating strong English communication skills.
