About

We cannot predict every challenge Canadians will face in the years ahead. We can strengthen their ability to understand it. Across Canada, more than 260 licensed community, Indigenous, and campus radio stations provide trusted local journalism, culture, learning, and connection. Rooted in small towns, large cities, rural and remote regions, and Indigenous communities, they make complex issues understandable, preserve languages and knowledge, develop emerging talent, and create space for people too often excluded from other media. Together, these broadcasters form a distributed national network of local knowledge, public participation, learning, and innovation. They help Canadians understand what is happening close to home and connect local experiences to the issues shaping the country. The Community Broadcasters Foundation of Canada exists to invest in that network. Through philanthropic partnerships and charitable giving, CBFC attracts and stewards new investment in the people, voices, programming, and infrastructure that allow community broadcasting to thrive. This support helps train the next generation of journalists and storytellers, advance Indigenous-led language and cultural initiatives, strengthen public-interest journalism, amplify underrepresented voices, support local music and arts, and keep trusted information available when communities need it most. Community journalism is not a smaller version of national journalism. It is an essential part of Canada’s capacity to know itself. As information environments, technologies, and community needs change, CBFC is helping build the community broadcasting ecosystem Canadians will rely on for what comes next. Canada, Heard Here.
