Job details

Summary The Senior Reservoir Simulation Scientist will work as part of CMG’s CoFlow development team. CoFlow combines reservoir and production engineering simulation technologies to improve the overall productivity of engineering workflows for large, integrated assets. It enables oil and gas companies to better understand and develop petroleum resources through a unified approach. The successful candidate will join a small development team responsible for the technologies supporting CoFlow’s well and production engineering capabilities. Essential Responsibilities Working as part of the CoFlow team and under the direction of the Development Team Lead, the employee will work within a small team of engineering software professionals. The team is responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of innovative technologies for simulating reservoirs, wells, and surface networks. A primary responsibility of this position will be to maintain and extend CoFlow’s fluid modeling capabilities, including, but not limited to, black-oil, K-value, and equation of state fluid models; fluid blending strategies; flash calculations; fluid component lumping/de-lumping; and temperature and enthalpy formulations for thermal applications. Additional responsibilities include: Contribute to improving the team’s software development processes. Work collaboratively with other CoFlow team members. Understand the needs of reservoir and production engineers who use CoFlow. Help develop clear specifications for new software features, including acceptance tests and release criteria. Contribute to the design, implementation, testing, and maintenance of high-quality engineering software. Note: This description reflects the general nature of the role. It’s not a complete list of responsibilities—we believe in flexibility, initiative, and growing together. Knowledge and Skills A minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience developing engineering software, preferably involving thermodynamics, fluid modeling, reservoir engineering, or production engineering. Proficiency in C++, Fortran, and/or C#, with the ability to work according to modern software engineering practices used within the project. Strong teamwork and communication skills, with a willingness to learn and collaborate with others. Experience with Agile software development methodologies and Test-Driven Development (TDD) is an asset. Experience using AI-assisted software development tools, such as Claude or similar tools, is an asset. Self-motivated and team-oriented, with a positive attitude and strong time-management skills. Very good written and verbal communication skills in English. Education A Master’s degree or higher in Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
