Job summary

Position Summary Regular Part-Time Support Staff, new positions (First consideration for support staff and academic positions will be given to internal applicants in accordance with the respective collective agreements) The PSW Technologist is an integral member of the Personal Support Worker (PSW) and Supportive Care teaching and learning teams. Reporting within a collaborative teaching and learning environment, the incumbent supports student learning by facilitating the integration of theory into practice through skills demonstration, supervision, mentoring, coaching, and assessment. Working closely with faculty, the PSW Technologist prepares students to successfully demonstrate supportive care skills in laboratory settings and supports learning in Open Access environments. The incumbent serves as a resource for students and faculty, promotes interprofessional collaboration, and helps foster positive relationships with placement and community partners. Successful candidates must be available to work on-site, Monday to Saturday, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. PSW Technologists will be scheduled for 12 hours per week, with the potential to work up to 24 hours per week. Successful candidates will be based out of Conestoga’s Guelph or Milton campuses and will be required to work on-site at any of our campuses, including Kitchener, Waterloo, Guelph and Milton. Responsibilities Lab instruction and student support Facilitate skills demonstrations using pre-determined program standards and assessment criteria Modify experiential learning activities to observe students’ ability to demonstrate practice capability and decision making in accordance with program outcomes and the associated professional regulatory bodies Schedule individual and group learning activities, including remedial skill development sessions Support student competency building through return demonstrations; provide additional guidance and support to students as identified by the teaching and learning team Support student learning within Open Access environments Student documentation and support Maintain accurate records of student progress using established assessment tools Monitor and document student achievement of skill competencies and critical thinking outcomes Consult with faculty and teaching team members regarding student progress and achievement of learning objectives Lab operations Prepare laboratory environments, equipment, and materials for instructional activities Maintain a safe, organized, and clean laboratory environment Ensure laboratory equipment is in proper working order Identify and report equipment maintenance, repair, and replacement needs Professional development Maintain current professional knowledge and instructional effectiveness Participate in continuing education and professional development activities Attend College training sessions and workshops Maintain and enhance technology and computer skills Program activities Attend pre-semester orientation and planning sessions Participate in regular teaching and learning team meetings throughout the semester Attend program-level meetings as required Support program promotional and recruitment activities Proctor examinations as required throughout the academic year Relationship building and community engagement Promote positive relationships with healthcare organizations, educational institutions, and community partners Represent and promote PSW programs to prospective students and placement stakeholders Qualifications One-year Personal Support Worker certificate is required Standard First Aid and CPR training is required Minimum five years of experience working as a PSW in a long-term care and/or community care practice setting is required Demonstrated commitment to person-centred care Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and community partners Strong organizational and time-management skills Self-motivated with strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment Completion of a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check and up-to-date immunization records are required Apply Now Apply to this requisition Print this requisition

Requirements
