Our client, located in the Calgary area, is a multi-company group with variety of operations including several Land Development and Rental partnerships as well as a couple operating businesses. They are currently seeking a Controller to manage all financial aspects of the companies. Reporting directly to the President/Owner, this role is a unique opportunity for a CPA to take charge of all financial operations, including financial reporting, forecasting, budgeting, bookkeeping and the maintenance of accounting policies and procedures. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, strategic, and possess strong leadership skills, with the ability to align financial operations with the company’s growth objectives. Key Responsibilities Refine internal financial and operational programs to align with the business’s evolving needs. Oversee the organization’s financial health by analyzing results and implementing corrective actions. Maintain and enhance accounting practices, processes, systems, and internal controls to ensure compliance with reporting standards and generally accepted accounting principles. Manage accounting functions, including billing, banking, wire transfers, petty cash, payroll, high level bookkeeping, financial statements and year-end procedures. Develop proprietary reporting procedures, including budget-to-actual comparisons and overall financial reporting. Review financial statements, reports, special analyses, and other critical information. Deliver accurate financial forecasts and monitor monthly operating results. Review and approve monthly bank reconciliations. Lead the preparation of the official annual financial report, including revenues, intercompany transfers, and expenses. Collaborate on the development of short- and long-term business plans. Coordinate the preparation oof additional financial reports and conduct special analyses as needed Ideal Candidate Profile CPA Designation Leadership Experience: Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience in accounting. Knowledgeable in Finance and Accounting: Familiarity with Accounting Standards for Private Enterprise (ASPE), budgeting, and cost control principles. Strong Analytical Skills: Experience with short- and long-term budgeting, rolling budgets, and product-line profitability analysis. Relationship Builder: Proven ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships internally and externally through effective communication. Business Acumen: A clear understanding of how financial practices influence operations and organizational success. Problem-Solver and Strategic Thinker: Ability to address challenges effectively and provide actionable recommendations to the President. Industry Experience: Experience in the sports and recreation sector is a strong asset. Technical Proficiency: Expertise in QuickBooks Online.
