ROLE PURPOSE This position will provide casework and support to residents of Connective’s programs to enhance their quality of life, to ensure the orderly and safe operation of the facility, and to maintain the goals of the counselling and/or rehabilitative plans. LOCATION Prince George, BC STATUS Unionized. This position is open to applicants of all genders. HOURS Mornings (0800 – 1600) Evenings (1600 – 0000) Overnights (0000 – 0800) Casual employees must be available for at least 21 shifts per month in which seven are overnight shifts. If you are working full-time, or if you are a full-time student, we ask you for 15 shifts of availability per month in which five are overnight shifts (this is subject to employer or enrollment proof). Documents and implements the plan and provides input into the evaluation of the program. Evaluates client needs and develops short term plans to meet such needs with the active participation of residents and their families. Works directly with additional staff (i.e., Social Workers and Outreach Workers), community service and support providers, government and non-government organizations, and First Nations service providers to inform the development and implementation of individual support plans consistent with harm reduction and Connective’s philosophies and practices. Assists residents to function more independently in their own homes and in the community. Assists residents with daily life skills, social skills, and/or behaviour management. Nurtures opportunities and assists residents with activities such as grooming, basic cooking, money management, shopping, household safety, and pet care. Facilitates physical, recreational, educational, social, and vocational activities. Recognizes, analyzes, and deals with potential emergency situations such as aggressive behaviour(s) to minimize potential harm to others and/or the public. Administers medication to residents in accordance with established policy. Ensures health and safety standards are maintained. Maintains oversight of the building as required to mitigate conflict amongst residents and/or other persons accessing the property. Completes regular and routine walk-through checks of the property and immediately surrounding area. Reviews and evaluates residents’ progress and adjusts programs as required. Provides feedback and support to residents and/or their families. Accompanies and/or transports clients to activities such as appointments, shopping, or leisure activities. Maintains/provides either written and/or verbal reports regarding clients’ daily activities and progress in accordance with policy and standards. Ensures that all required documentation is complete and accurate. Identifies social, economic, recreational, physical, vocational, and educational services in the community that will meet clients’ needs. Maintains liaison with other agencies, professionals, government officials, and the community. Along with the other residence staff, monitors and ensures effective operation of the facility including quality control concerning cleaning equipment, indoor and outdoor maintenance, inventory, and food services. Provides input into meal scheduling and preparation, including food inventory. As assigned, organizes, executes, and oversees the preparation of meals and involves the residents in this process. Participates in team meetings as instructed by the Program Manager. Other duties as subsequently negotiated. EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS Graduated with a Diploma in a related human/social service field and one-year of related experience Experience with clients with a history of conflict with the law, developmental disabilities and/or spectrum disorders, experiencing homelessness, interaction with social agencies and experiencing mental health challenges Experience working with First Nation communities A demonstrated and clear ability to respond well in crisis situations An understanding of providing service to people with different learning abilities Demonstrated an ability to deal with potential violence Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The physical requirements outlined below are non-specific to the position, as such, there may be additional tasks required. Ability to walk up and down stairs Ability to operate a motor vehicle Ability to move items weighing up to 50 pounds Ability to perform First Aid, CPR, and Naloxone administration Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time Ability to complete general housekeeping duties (i.e., sweeping, mopping, wiping areas, laundry, changing light bulbs) REQUIREMENTS Successful completion of a Vulnerable Persons Criminal Records Check and Reference Check Current Emergency First Aid Certificate: Certificates accepted in B.C. - WorkSafeBC Willing to complete Food Safe Certificate (Level 1) Proof of vaccination for communicable diseases may be required as mandated by Government, Health Authority, and/or funder requirements COMPENSATION As Connective is a unionized environment, the starting wage is $27.53 per hour (plus 5% in lieu of statutory holiday pay for Part-Time employees, 10.6% in lieu of vacation pay and benefits for casual employees). The wage will increase with every 2,000 hours worked up to a maximum of $31.57 per hour (plus 5% in lieu of statutory holiday pay for Part-Time employees, 10.6% in lieu of vacation pay and benefits for casual employees). Important: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada, observe their weekly hours limit if under a temporary or study visa, and provide proof of eligibility if selected for the role.
