ARENA MAINTENANCE (PART-TIME) The City is seeking an experienced arena maintenance staff to join our dedicated Recreation and Parkland Planning team. Job Status: Part time Temporary Division: Community Services Department: Recreation and Parkland Planning Services Union: Non-Union Affiliation Hourly Rate: $17.60 Vacancies: Up to 10 Closing Date: Open until vacancies are filled ABOUT THE CITY OF SARNIA Located at the mouth of the St. Clair River on the shores of Lake Huron, the community of Sarnia is known for its breathtaking waterfront, pristine beaches and beautiful parks system. Ranked one of the most affordable medium-sized cities in Ontario, Sarnia, with its 72,000 residents, is home to over 1,000 acres of parkland and 40 km of trails in addition to 4 golf courses, 16 art galleries, 6 museums, and 3 theatres across the County. THE ROLE As a committed and reliable team member, you will be part of a team responsible for a range of maintenance and cleaning duties, including cleaning arena stands and concourse areas, emptying and disposing of waste and recycling in the appropriate locations, and helping with the setup and take down of special events. Part of your role will include supporting ice maintenance efforts, including relocating the nets. The role involves physical tasks such as lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, and standing for extended periods, and requires a high level of attentiveness to maintain safety for yourself and others. QUALIFICATIONS * Ability to work for the duration of the season, working various shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays, as required. * Shifts may start as early as 5:30 a.m. or end as late as 1:00 a.m. * Personal safety shoes or boots with the CSA triangle (all other personal protective equipment will be provided) THE CANDIDATE THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE SHOULD POSSESS THE FOLLOWING EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCIES: * Must be able to follow instructions and work independently when needed * Excellent teamwork skills * Strong verbal communication skills * Safety conscious and able to demonstrate safe work practices WHY WORK WITH US It’s an opportunity to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment where your organizational skills, attention to detail, and professionalism will be highly valued.
