Job summary

Controls and Automation Engineer — Global size CPG Manufacturing site (Unionized Site) Overview Lead controls and automation support for a unionized manufacturing plant. Own PLC systems, automation equipment, and electrical infrastructure while coaching technicians and driving continuous improvement across safety, quality, and production. What You'll Do Program, troubleshoot, and repair PLC systems and automation/electrical equipment Diagnose equipment failures and lead root cause analysis Plan and execute controls projects (capital and OPEX) with minimal production disruption Manage electrical substation upgrades and major overhauls Own plant OT systems and data platforms (e.g., historian, SCADA/HMI tools) Lead, coach, and train site unionized electricians on controls and automation practices Support annual operating plans and yield improvement initiatives People Leadership (Required) Proven experience leading or coaching a technical team Ability to train, develop, and hold electricians/technicians accountable to standards Strong communicator — leads meetings, writes clear plant communications, gives/receives feedback What You Bring Bachelor's degree (engineering/technical preferred) or equivalent experience 3+ years troubleshooting and programming field controls in an industrial setting Allen Bradley PLC5/500/ControlLogix experience Motor control, VFD, and industrial safety circuit (Cat III/IV) knowledge Familiarity with industrial comms protocols (Ethernet, Profibus, DeviceNet, DH+) Lean Six Sigma experience a plus Self-directed, decisive, and comfortable working independently

Requirements

A bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent experience is preferred, along with 3+ years of experience in troubleshooting and programming field controls. Familiarity with Allen Bradley PLCs and industrial communication protocols is also required.
