Position Details Position Information Position Title Part-Time Academic (INFO 6820: Antiracism and Diversity in the Information Professions) – Winter 2027 Posting Number PTAP3528P Department/Unit Information Science Location Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Job Summary & Key Responsibilities A Part-Time Academic is needed to teach the following course from January to April 2027. Class Is currently scheduled for 11:35 am – 2:25 pm on Thursdays. The course is delivered in an online format. Course description: Examines discourses, practices, and understandings of antiracism and ‘diversity’ (and related notions) past demographics or other visible characteristics. Emphasis will be on cultivating a values-based diversity mindset, along with a critical reflection on the choices and values embedded in the design and use of information, its institutions, and its technologies; how these might be translated across different sectors (e.g., libraries, archives, museums, networked organizations, professional associations, and major international organizations active in this area), and across different cultural contexts. The Part-Time academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the class, including lectures and evaluation. The part-time academic should be available for a three-hour lecture and two hours per week for consultation with students. Additional meetings with the MI program office may be required (approximately 1.5 hour / month). The part-time academic reports to Dr. Alison Brown, the acting MI Program Director. Qualifications/Requirements Of Position A PhD in Information Science, Archives, History Museums Studies, or a closely related field is preferred. An applicant with an MLIS degree (or equivalent) and demonstratable significant professional and/or research experience in foundational frameworks of EDIAD , and related legal and policy environments will be considered. An MI degree (or equivalent) is required. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to teach and apply interdisciplinary approaches to examining how values shape the design, organization, preservation, and use of information, information technologies, and information institutions. Experience engaging with Indigenous and global perspectives, critical approaches to metadata, cataloguing, digitization, professional practice, and organizational diversity across libraries, archives, museums, and related sectors is highly desirable. Excellent oral / written and presentation skills are required. Salary Range/Pay Rate $8,260 per course (In accordance with CUPE Collective Agreement) Additional Information All offers of employment as a Part-Time Academic are conditional upon sufficient student enrolment in the course and approval by the University. Requirements
