Job details
WHY DEPT®? We are pioneers at heart. What this means is that we are always leaning forward, thinking of what we can create tomorrow that does not exist today. We were born digital and we are a new model of agency, with a deep skillset in tech and marketing. That's why we hire curious, self-driven, talented people who never stop innovating. Our culture is big enough to cope and small enough to care. Meaning that with people across 20+ countries, we're big enough to provide you with the best tools, global opportunities, and benefits that help you thrive. While acting small by investing in you, your growth, your team, and giving you the autonomy to solve our clients' problems, no matter where you are in the world. THE ROLE DEPT® is seeking a highly technical, consultative, and hands-on Architect, Software Engineering (AEM) to join our forward-deployed architecture squad in North America. Mapped back to our Web Craft, this role is a specialized engineering seat focused on Adobe Experience Manager excellence. You will step directly into complex client environments to execute deep-dive code audits, optimize rendering speeds, and resolve complex web and DAM architecture blockages. This is a hands-on technical execution role. You will work in tight sprint windows to remediate technical debt, configure AEM permission pathways, and execute migration tasks from legacy architectures to AEM as a Cloud Service (AEMaCS), restoring customer confidence and establishing technical stability. WHAT YOU'LL DO * Perform Code & Performance Audits: Execute deep AEM code reviews and implement targeted performance optimizations (Core Web Vitals, Dispatcher/CDN caching rules, edge routing, and bundle size reduction). * Deliver Cloud Migrations: Lead hands-on technical migration tasks to transition legacy, on-prem, or Adobe Managed Services (AMS) web environments to AEM as a Cloud Service (AEMaCS). * Remediate Asset Architecture: Reconfigure AEM Assets (DAM) taxonomies, metadata schemas, processing profiles, and ACL/permissions pathways to optimize large-scale asset ingestion and retrieval. * Implement Performant Interfaces: Build and optimize AEM content delivery using AEM Edge Delivery Services (EDS), Core Components, or decoupled/headless GraphQL APIs. * Support Technical Handoffs: Document code fixes, establish Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for client development teams, and transition stabilized AEM codebases cleanly. WHAT YOU BRING * Web Architecture Excellence: 10+ years of software engineering experience with a deep technical understanding of CDN edge routing (Fastly/Cloudflare), web caching strategies, SSO integration (SAML/OAuth), and content taxonomies. * Core AEM Architecture Expertise: * Hands-on engineering expertise across AEM Sites and AEM Assets, with proven experience in AEM as a Cloud Service (AEMaCS) as well as legacy architectures. * Direct experience deploying and tuning AEM Edge Delivery Services (EDS) or document-based authoring for high-speed page performance. * Deep understanding of AEM Dispatcher configuration, OSGi service architecture, Sling models, and Oak JCR indexing/query optimization. * Consultative Mindset: Strong collaborative skills with the ability to work directly with client development teams, explain complex technical fixes clearly, and drive architectural best practices. Work Environment: Remote position - TRAVEL EXPECTED WE OFFER: * 15 days Paid PTO * 10 Public Holidays + Birthday off * Medical, Dental, and Mental Health Support/Benefits (through Canada Life Insurance) * Learning & growth certifications/certifications * Enhanced Family Leave (after 1 year) * A flexible, hybrid working policy * Buddy Program: You will be paired with a ‘Buddy’ to help you through your first weeks’ at DEPT® * Tons of Office perks in our Toronto office!
