Job summary
Account Manager – Commercial Insurance (Construction Focus) Ottawa-Area | Hybrid | $110,000–$130,000 Base + Commission + Bonus A well-established, growth-focused retail insurance brokerage is looking for an experienced Account Manager to join its commercial team in a rare and exciting opportunity. You'll step into a close, high-trust partnership with a top-producing Account Executive, managing a select portfolio of large, sophisticated construction and commercial realty accounts, the kind of book most Account Managers spend a career trying to land. This is more than a service role. You'll be a true partner and second arm to the Account Executive, trusted with significant autonomy, meaningful client relationships, and a real say in how the business is run day to day. Why You'll Love This Role Work directly with a small number of large, high-profile construction and commercial realty accounts, quality over quantity. Step into a genuine partnership, not just a support role: you and the Account Executive operate as a true team. Enjoy real autonomy in a collaborative, low-ego environment where good ideas and hard work are recognized. Join a team that genuinely invests in its people and celebrates success together. What You'll Do Own the day-to-day servicing of a portfolio of large construction and commercial realty accounts, including endorsements, changes, and certificates of insurance. Lead renewal strategy and remarketing, preparing submissions, proposals, comparison spreadsheets, and presentations. Analyze client coverage, exposures, and loss experience to identify gaps and recommend solutions. Partner closely with the Account Executive to develop and execute strategies for renewals, growth, and new business. Build strong relationships with insurance company underwriters, MGAs, and other key partners. Support claims through to resolution, ensuring clients feel supported every step of the way. Keep the broker management system accurate and current, and stay on top of applications, abeyances, and outstanding information. Where applicable, support Surety transactions, reviewing tenders, preparing bid and final bonds, and managing renewals. What You Bring 5+ years of commercial lines account management experience, with a strong construction background. A track record of managing large, complex commercial accounts with confidence and attention to detail. Excellent client-facing, written, and verbal communication skills. Strong personal organization and the ability to manage competing priorities under tight deadlines. Comfort operating with a high degree of trust, accountability, and independence. Surety experience is a bonus, not a requirement — a strong construction background matters most. RIBO license in good standing, with continuing education kept up to date. Compensation & Benefits Base salary of $110,000–$130,000, commensurate with experience. Additional commission opportunity tied to growth and volume on existing accounts. Annual bonus potential based on company performance. Company-paid benefits Retirement plan with a 5% employer-matched contribution. 4 weeks (20 days) of vacation. A hybrid work arrangement, with flexibility available for the right candidate. Ready to Take the Next Step? If you're a seasoned commercial Account Manager looking for a high-impact role with a large, prestigious book of business and a genuine partnership with your producer, we'd love to hear from you.
