POSITION SCOPE The Continuing Care Assistant works under the direct supervision of the Nursing Supervisor. The incumbent is responsible for carrying out direct home support services to clients in their own homes as authorized by Continuing Care. The services may include assisting in activities such as personal hygiene, respite care and palliative care. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: Maintaining the focus on client independence is an ongoing Continuing Care Assistants responsibility (may perform any one or a combination of the following): Required Tasks: * Work with clients in their homes to assist/provide daily living activities such as personal hygiene, oral care, skin care, toileting, bathing, feeding, dressing and grooming * Provide respite care * Provide palliative care * Plan and prepare meals and light household duties * Help with mobility and transfers * Maintain confidentiality concerning clients, staff and organizational information * Work within the NSAHO Scope of Practice for CCAs REQUIRED: * Successful completion of CCA course and provincial CCA certification or willingness to obtain certification through the Nova Scotia CCA Recognizing Prior Learning (RPL) Program * Current Standard CPR/First Aid required * A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle is required * A current and original copy of a satisfactory Criminal Record, Vulnerable Sector Records Check and Child Abuse Registry Check are required * Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) * The ability to attend work on a regular and consistent basis * The ability to meet the physical requirements of the job including safe lifting, push, pull and bending with demonstrated use of proper body mechanics * Good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to resolve conflicts
