The West Vancouver Memorial Library is currently seeking highly qualified candidates for multiple Library Assistant II opportunities. This important team member will perform a variety of collections support, clerical work, and public service functions in the Circulation Department. Reporting to the Circulation Supervisor and working alongside a motivated team, the Library Assistant II position is responsible for providing assistance to the public at service desks; answering routine directional and informational questions from the public, providing basic technology assistance including printing, photocopying, online program registration, and room bookings, creating and maintaining patron accounts, processing payment transactions, sorting and shelving books and other materials into alphabetical and numerical order, and performing other related duties as required. The Ideal Candidate Will Possess Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills Excellent oral and written communication Exceptional attention to detail and organizational ability Experience managing and recording payment transactions Strong computer skills and a positive orientation towards technology The successful candidate will also have: the ability to work independently and as part of a team; the ability to interact tactfully, courteously and effectively with people of all ages and other employees, completion of Grade 12 and preferably previous experience working in a busy public library setting. Familiarity with Sierra or another ILS platform is an asset. The off-desk portion of circulation work is physical, with staff moving books and materials throughout the day as well as operating and off-loading the automatic materials handing machine. Movements such as bending, reaching, lifting, gripping and pushing book trucks are involved throughout a shift.
