Position Summary: Reporting to the Clinical Manager, the Registered Practical Nurse will be responsible for coordinating and delivering nursing care associated within a residential care setting. They will provide support and education to clients, families and others during all phases of treatment and recovery. This role will also be responsible for providing crisis intervention (clients and public), client behaviour management and supportive counselling skills within their scope of practice. Duties & Responsibilities: 1. Delivering client care according to the College of Nurses of Ontario Standards of Nursing Practice. 2. Providing ongoing client care utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning implementation and evaluation. 3. Formulating and implementing client care plans. 4. Safely implementing physician’s orders. 5. Administering medications to clients. 6. Maintaining current progress records on clients according to legal and ethical standards. 7. Orientating, facilitating and reinforcing client’s involvement in addiction treatment. 8. Decide and initiate on course of action in case of medical emergencies 9. Providing supportive counselling to clients, families and/or significant others on typical recovery issues. 10. Maintain a therapeutic environment on the unit conducive to the client learning productive patterns of living. 11. Providing ongoing health teaching to clients in relation to common health problems and the clients maintaining a healthy lifestyle. 12. Co-ordinate individual client appointments and referrals. 13. Actively participate with team members in the assessment, planning and evaluation of the client and his care. 14. Assisting the public with crisis intervention and information on addiction. 15. Perform other duties as outlined on shift duty lists and as assigned by the Manager of Nursing and Patient Care. 16.
