This is a casual position with no guaranteed hours. However, all casual hires are eligible to apply to internal temporary or permanent positions. The job works as part of a multi-disciplinary team to assist students in learning and developing skills in the areas of socialization, communication, and behavior. The job also provides general support in the classroom. Job Responsibilities Assist the teacher with planning, preparing, and implementing programs to meet student needs Organize classroom materials, activities, equipment, and programs Assist the multi-disciplinary team with the implementation of developmental strategies Behaviour management Provide a range of personal and physical care Assist co-workers during peak periods and absences Qualifications High School diploma plus certificate/diploma in an area related to early childhood education or special needs education, plus one year directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and qualifications Knowledge of intervention techniques and strategies, first aid, CPR, and administering medication Knowledge of Microsoft programs, including Word, Outlook, and the internet Ability to communicate with sensitivity, diplomacy, and tact is essential Ability to effectively communicate in the English language, both oral and written, with the ability to develop and maintain communication with students, teachers, and specialists Ability to travel to sites within Edmonton Fluency in French, Spanish, Ukrainian, or knowledge and understanding of the Cree language and culture, is an asset.
