Job Description Electrical Engineer – Roadway Lighting Design based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, responsible for the design, coordination, and delivery of electrical infrastructure systems supporting transportation projects. The role contributes to multidisciplinary engineering teams through the preparation and review of roadway lighting designs, engineering calculations, technical documentation, and construction support activities. The position supports projects through planning, detailed design, tender preparation, utility coordination, commissioning, and field inspection phases. Responsibilities include development of lighting layouts, single-line diagrams, wiring schematics, grounding systems, photometric analyses, and engineering reports while ensuring compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and quality management requirements. The ideal candidate possesses 5-10 years of electrical engineering experience, including direct roadway lighting design exposure, professional engineering registration in Canada, and experience working within transportation infrastructure environments involving utility stakeholders and regulatory authorities. Key Responsibilities Prepare and review roadway lighting design packages including layouts, single-line diagrams, wiring schematics, and grounding details. Perform engineering calculations related to wire sizing, voltage drop, conduit capacity, and electrical distribution systems. Develop and validate photometric design models to support roadway lighting performance and compliance requirements. Coordinate utility infrastructure interfaces for transportation-related design and construction projects. Produce technical reports, specifications, tender documentation, and engineering deliverables for infrastructure projects. Conduct design reviews to verify accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project requirements and QA/QC procedures. Provide field engineering support through commissioning activities, site inspections, and construction-phase technical assistance. Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams to integrate electrical systems with broader transportation infrastructure works. Support regulatory compliance by applying applicable electrical codes, transportation standards, and engineering practices. Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and designers. Contribute to the development and maintenance of engineering standards, templates, and departmental procedures. Participate in stakeholder and client coordination meetings to provide technical recommendations and project updates. Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in good standing with a Canadian engineering regulator. 5-10 years of progressive electrical engineering experience. Minimum 3 years of direct roadway lighting design experience. Experience designing electrical systems for transportation and infrastructure projects. Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D. Strong working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC). Experience with O.Reg. 22/04 certification requirements. Experience coordinating with utility authorities and external stakeholders. Experience preparing engineering calculations, technical documentation, and construction support deliverables. Experience using lighting calculation software including AGI32 and/or AutoLux. Assets Experience using SPIDAcalc or equivalent pole loading software. Additional experience supporting commissioning, construction inspection, and utility relocation initiatives. Exposure to large-scale transportation corridor or municipal infrastructure projects. Experience supporting multidisciplinary infrastructure delivery programs. Candidates should have transportation infrastructure experience, proficiency with AutoCAD or Civil 3D, knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and O.Reg. 22/04, utility coordination experience, and familiarity with AGI32 or AutoLux.
