The Communications Officer helps bring EHRC's mission to life through storytelling, editorial leadership and content creation across digital and print channels. Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, they develop and share stories that highlight the people, partnerships and initiatives shaping Canada's electricity workforce. Location: Ottawa, ON (Hybrid) Type: Full-time, one-year contract, with possibility of extension Reports to: Marketing and Communications Manager Salary: $60,000–68,000, commensurate with experience Start date: Immediate Position Summary Canada’s electricity sector is experiencing significant growth and transformation. As Canadians electrify their homes and vehicles, integrate renewable energy technologies into the grid and embrace the impact of digital technology, it is crucial to bring together employers, unions, post-secondary institutions and policymakers to address the labour challenges confronting the sector. Electricity Human Resources Canada (EHRC) is working with its partners to build a world-class, safety-focused, innovative and inclusive electricity workforce. A key element of our work is telling this sector’s stories to various audiences across various channels. Responsibilities Create and publish content for digital and print channels, including webpages, emails, newsletters, social media, blogs, articles, news releases and advertising. Conduct interviews and develop audience-focused stories that translate complex workforce insights into engaging and accessible content. Lead the organization's content calendar and coordinate publishing schedules across teams and projects. Manage website and social media content, ensuring information is current, accurate and aligned with organizational priorities. Curate, build and distribute newsletters and email marketing campaigns that support organizational priorities, audience engagement and awareness. Edit and review communications materials to ensure consistency in voice, tone, messaging and brand standards. Serve as a steward of EHRC's organizational voice across communications channels and materials. Cultivate relationships with industry partners, employers, educators, associations, government and other stakeholders to identify story opportunities, gather workforce insights, amplify EHRC initiatives and support the development of timely, relevant content. Monitor industry news, media coverage, stakeholder activity and workforce trends to identify emerging issues, communications opportunities and content ideas. Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications Project Officer and Marketing and Events Officer to align program, event and corporate communications with organizational messaging and publishing priorities. Coordinate external content contributors and vendors to support communications initiatives. Support media relations activities through research, content development and coordination. Monitor and report on channel performance, stakeholder engagement and communications outcomes, providing insights and recommendations to support continuous improvement. Represent EHRC at industry events and support on-site logistics. Perform other related duties as required. Qualifications The ideal candidate is a skilled communicator and storyteller who excels at developing engaging content, building relationships and identifying opportunities to connect EHRC’s work with the needs and interests of the electricity sector. They bring strong editorial judgment, exceptional writing skills and a proactive approach to generating stories and communications opportunities. Postsecondary education or equivalent experience in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism or a related field. Minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience in a communications or marketing role, preferably within a not for profit, association or public-interest environment. Demonstrated experience writing, editing and publishing content across digital and traditional channels, with strong attention to detail and quality. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong command of voice, tone and audience-focused messaging. Experience conducting interviews and developing engaging stories from complex information and diverse stakeholder perspectives. Strong project coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills, with experience working across teams and with external stakeholders. Proficiency with website content management systems, email marketing tools and social media platforms. Knowledge of the electricity or energy sector is an asset. Bilingualism in English and French is considered an asset and strongly preferred. Work Environment Ottawa-based, hybrid work environment (minimum 3 days in office per week). Small office with a team of about 20 staff. Close to public transport, paid parking available, local amenities nearby. Some travel across Canada is required. Compensation and Benefits This is a term, one year contract with the possibility of an extension. Salary: $60,000 to $68,000 annually, commensurate with experience. 15 days of paid vacation annually. Requirements

Candidates should demonstrate strong writing, editing, interviewing, project coordination, collaboration, and digital publishing skills; electricity-sector knowledge and English-French bilingualism are assets.
