The Opportunity Company, Department: Emera Energy, Corporate Finance Location: Halifax, NS Closing Date: September 15, 2026 The Opportunity Emera Energy is currently seeking a Co-op, Corporate Accounting student for the Winter 2027 term (Jan 4 – April 30, 2027) with our Corporate Finance team. This 16-week opportunity provides hands-on experience in financial reporting, settlement processes, and accounting operations within a dynamic corporate environment. In this role, you will gain valuable exposure to month-end close processes, financial analysis, customer service, and corporate accounting activities while working closely with professionals across the organization. What You’ll Do As a co-op student, you will contribute to key accounting processes and support financial operations within the Corporate Finance team. This includes: Prepare monthly journal entries and support general ledger monitoring, including full working paper and audit file preparation, account reconciliations, and analysis Assist with settlement activities, including reconciliation of invoice information with counterparties, invoice payment processing, and monitoring bank account activity Process invoice and settlement transactions while ensuring accuracy and completeness Work closely with internal departments to resolve settlement discrepancies and support efficient workflows Prepare government and regulatory reports related to business activities Provide customer service support through telephone and email communications Assist with routine and ad hoc financial reporting, analysis, and special projects Work Term Outcomes By the end of your work term, you will have: Gained a strong understanding of the month-end close cycle and corporate accounting processes Developed the ability to work independently in a professional accounting environment Strengthened your customer service and communication skills in a finance setting Built a foundational understanding of the marketing and trading business Enhanced your analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills Who You Are You're a proactive and detail-oriented student in your 3rd or 4th year of an undergraduate degree in Accounting, looking to develop your accounting knowledge and gain meaningful corporate finance experience in a collaborative environment.
